Great success for the first pre-season Robotics Camps held at Chatham High School.
Registration for the August 11-15 Camp open here (code 4216)

Inaugurating it's new practice location at the Chatham High School Cafeteria, the newly formed Chatham Junior Varsity team finalized it's pre-season camp with a competition between the 3 newly acquired Robots.

During the week, students benefited from the insights of veteran instructors Matt Blackman (Madison), Robert Sokolov (Stevens) and Laura Atkins (Livingston) in a camp masterfully engineered by FTC volunteer Vince Fascarella.

"This camp allowed all the kids to have equal exposure to the skills required to be productive on day 1 of the competition season that starts on September 6th .  You don't want to start your baseball season by learning how to hold a batt. All students have now the basis for Designing the Robot, Building it, and Programming it".
All the students designed, built and programmed the Robots
The camp also featured industry speakers from Carnegie Mellon University, Honeywell Robotics and Cisco Systems, one of the sponsors of the camp. Representatives from those organizations shared with the students the great opportunities they see for students with STEM skills.

"I had to tell you that my daughter really likes the Robotics Camp.  I have rarely seen her as enthusiastic about anything.  She said today that the speaker made her look at her future beyond college." one parent of a 9th grader said.

Campers are invited to visit these companies in the fall and to be part of a Fall Study Trip to Yale University, Brown, Harvard University and MIT. During the spring, ChathamSTEM is organizing a trip to the technology hubs in the West Coast.

This is the first time ChathamSTEM is holding a pre-season camp for Robotics and also the first time a team will have a gender balanced roster.  It is also the first time ChathamSTEM hosts students from the Boys and Girls Club of Newark, as part of its commitment to share the unique opportunities Chatham kids have access to.

This is a great year for Robotics in Chatham and the school administration across the board is doing everything possible to make this a tremendous success".
