Lori Herzog 
New U.S. Health Holdings

Lori Herzog, former senior director of health plan operations for Ascension SmartHealth, was recently appointed to U.S. Health Holdings (USHH) as chief operating officer.

In her new role, Lori will be responsible for overseeing, developing and setting the strategic direction for overall USHH operation and also for that of wholly-owned subsidiaries US Health and Life Insurance Company, Automated Benefit Services and ABS Managed Care Administrators.

Prior to her appointment, Herzog held various leadership positions within Meritain Health/Aetna, Optum/UnitedHealth Group and Corporate Benefit Services of America. Most recently, she served as senior director of health plan operations for Ascension SmartHealth, the employee benefits program for Ascension ministries. SmartHealth had its beginnings in 1997 with an original membership of approximately 11,000 employees; membership is expected to reach 65,000 in 2016, with a total annual spend of more than $279 million.

ABS has provided third party administration services for the SmartHealth program since 1997, and so Lori is already a familiar name and face within our organization, having worked with many of our departments and staff as a client for years.

Lori lives with her family in Minneapolis, MN, and will be working remotely with our Michigan offices and staff.

ACA Minimum Essential Coverage Reporting
IRS Form Mailings

USHL will soon begin sending IRS forms documenting Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) to its active members and groups, as required by the Affordable Care Act individual shared responsibility provision.

Entities offering group health coverage as well as individual taxpayers will be required to  report MEC information to the IRS for the 2015 tax year.  Reporting deadlines were extended by the IRS; for information regarding MEC reporting deadlines and additional frequently asked questions, click here.
