USHL Strength and Stability Documented in 2014 SAS Report

Standard Analytical Service, Inc. (SAS), publishers of independent insurance reports since 1932, recently released its 2014 annual comparative report of the 25 leading domestic health insurance providers.  Within this report, USHL received a favorable ranking.

Deriving information from 2013 annual statements, the 2014 SAS Independent Comparative Report documents financial conditions of the featured companies.  A summary of the findings, as excerpted from the report:

Solvency

A wide margin of assets over liabilities can be a significant safety factor.  This indicates financial soundness and a company's ability to meet all obligations as they become due.  Assets for each $100 of liabilities as of December 31, 2013

  • Average of the 25 leading Health-Accident companies:  $106.84
  • US Health and Life Insurance Company:  $144.31

Surplus Funds

A substantial surplus ratio may indicate a company's ability to take emergencies in stride.  It shows the amount of excess funds to total liabilities.  Per $100 of liabilities (including capital, if any)

  • Average of the 25 leading Health-Accident companies:  $6.84
  • US Health and Life Insurance Company:  $44.31

Liquid Assets

A high ratio may indicate a more liquid investment position to cover unforeseen emergency cash requirements that may arise.  Assets in bonds, stocks, cash, and short-term investments for each $100 of liabilities

  • Average of the 25 leading Health-Accident companies:  $51.07
  • US Health and Life Insurance Company:  $123.54

Putting Around in Western Michigan

USHL sponsored a putting contest at the recent Southwest Michigan Association of Health Underwriters golf outing, held June 10 at the Yarrow Golf and Conference Resort in Augusta, Michigan.

More than eighty golfers participated and enjoyed a perfect Michigan summer day on the 18 hole championship golf course.

The putting contest winner of $5000 was Carter Briggs of Secure One; the winner of the USHL raffle item, a package of Detroit Tigers baseball game tickets, was Mark Brotebeck of MBB Insurance.

Congratulations to all!
