SUSD Summer School Registration Begins Monday, February 2, 2015

In-Class and Online Instruction

Don't Delay!  Check with your counselor to select correct courses.

Register in the SUSD Parent Portal at www.susdcommunityed.org

 

Dates:  Session I:  June 8 - 25

            Session 2:  July 6 -  23

One semester class per session.

 

Classroom location:  Coronado High School

Hours:  8AM to 1PM, Monday through Thursday for in-class instruction

Fee:  $185 per session per class

 

For online classes final exams must be taken in person.  Some online classes have Honors offerings such as:  World History/Geography, Economics, English 1, English 2, Algebra 2, Earth and Space, Biology 1, Chemistry 1 and Spanish 3.  

In class summer school offerings do not have honors designation.

Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors: Are You Ready?
JUNIORS
SAT: Only three SAT test dates left before the end of the school year. Sign up NOW for a spot in our highly successful test preparation classes. In planning which test to take remember the March 14th date is the second Saturday of SUSD and NDP Spring break. The May 2nd date is right before AP testing and the June 6th date is at the beginning of summer. Plan to be in town and focused. There are no additional SAT test dates during the Summer 
after June 6. 
The next date will in the Fall...usually October.

ACT: Only three ACT test dates left this academic year: Saturday, 
Feb 7, April 18 and Saturday, June 13. 
SEC classes will be held for the April ACT 
starting March 23 - April 15, and intensive preparation 
June 1 - June 11  for the June test. 
Students who are strong in math/science and weak in vocabulary may find the ACT to be a better test on which to focus. 
Free ACT diagnostic available with sign up. ACT will not be offered again until Fall 2015.

Congratulations to Victoria Adams!  Charros DMHS Teacher of the Year for English! 

Victoria teaches 9th grade Pre-IB English and Honors English at Desert Mountain High School.  She started teaching at DMHS in 2012 and did her student teaching at Xavier College Preparatory.  She is an ASU graduate.  She is available for tutoring at Scottsdale Education Center on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3 to 7 PM.  Some of her hours are already full.  She tutors all levels of English, Study Skills and Writing.  Please join us in congratulating  Victoria Adams.

SENIORS
If you have deficiencies for high school graduation or acceptance to an in-state university or need to replace a course to up your GPA....SEC can help.  We have hundreds of students who have gotten through last minute course needs with their counselor's  approval.  We have helped students quickly and successfully complete online courses with focused tutoring.  Time is running out.  Make sure you give yourself enough time to complete any needed courses and get them on your transcript.  Ideally you want to shoot for course completion before mid-April.  Stay out of the panic zone.  Just completing the course is not enough-you need to make sure the grade is recorded and is transferred onto your transcript.  Only about 8 weeks left.  Call 480-538-0828 for details.

SEC HIGH SCHOOL READING PROGRAM:

GPA and standardized test scores not matching? Concerned because your student is not a reader? Come to SEC for a reading assessment and reading program designed to improve reading speed and comprehension. Skills taught during our 8 to 12 hour program focus on building strong underlying reading skills and pushing students to college level reading abilities. Joaquin Bustoz ASU Math/Science Honors Program

 about this intense academic program allowing student participants to reside on the ASU Tempe campus for a 8 week summer session while enrolled in a university-level mathematics course for college credit.  
  
The program is intended for mature high school sophomores, juniors, or 
seniors who demonstrate the academic potential to pursue university studies in math or science.  MSHP at ASU pays all student expenses (I.E. tuition, meals, supplies, etc.)  See website for application details.  Applications must be postmarked by Friday, March 6 and students are notified of their acceptance during the last week of March.  
Program is selective.  Up to 4 college credits in math may be awarded. 
Scholarships are available.
