Focus on Cancer Screening

Our regional screening program helps promote and provide support for Cancer Care Ontario's (CCO) three provincial screening programs:

* the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP)

* the Ontario Cervical Screening Program

* and ColonCancerCheck.

This means working closely with 22 OBSP screening sites and 6 endoscopy suites in our region to ensure we`re always meeting CCO's  quality standards.

Our regional screening team also provides support to 900 primary care providers in Central East and works closely with 4 public health units and other community organizations in our region to raise public

and provider awareness that screening saves lives.

Cancer Screening Quality Improvement Projects

In mid-February a call for quality improvement funding applications was sent out to all primary care providers practicing in the Central East LHIN who would like to implement a cancer screening QI project in the 2015/2016 fiscal year.

We are pleased to be supporting 12 QI projects in communities across our region representing the diverse population that makes up Central East.

This initiative will support our primary care community with projects ranging from patient engagement, developing translated patient educated materials, process improvement and staff education.

The Prevention and Cancer Screening team look forward to sharing the learnings and resources that come from these projects later in the year.
