Theology and Misconduct
The case of John Howard Yoder
Aug 04, 2014
Thirty years after John Howard Yoder was first accused of sexual misconduct and almost two decades after his death in 1997, the story of his abusive behavior remains painfully unresolved in the Mennonite communities in which he was for decades regarded as the foremost theologian and chief representative of Anabaptist thought.
During his lifetime Yoder faced two separate disciplinary proceedings. The first led to his 1984 resignation from the Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminaries (now Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary) in Elkhart, Indiana, after which he became a full-time professor at the University of Notre Dame, where he taught until his death. The second was conducted by the Mennonite Church from 1992 to 1996.
Last year a third discernment process was launched, spurred by women who believe that the church has repeatedly failed to uncover and acknowledge the truth.

"Catholic Spirit"
A few weeks ago while attending a church assembly I heard a preacher quoting from John Wesley's sermon "Catholic Spirit". I confess that I have ever heard about this Sermon. After searching for the sermon online and reading, I thought others would be interested in reading. (CM)
"But even though a difference in opinions or modes of worship may prevent an entire external union, yet need it prevent our union in affection? Though we cannot think alike, may we not love alike? May we not be of one heart, though we are not of one opinion? Without doubt, we may. In this all the children of God may unite, even though they retain these smaller differences. These remaining as they are, they may help one another increase in love and in good works." John Wesley

International Day of Peace
September 21, 2014
Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The United Nations has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
To mark the 30th anniversary of the UN General Assembly Declaration on the Right of Peoples to Peace, the theme of this year's International Day of Peace is the "Right of Peoples to Peace".
Christians and people of faith are invited to pray for Peace on this day.

Jesus' Greatest Desire for His Church on Earth
By John H. Armstrong
"It has been said that what we are speaks so loudly that what we saymeans very little. I think this is pretty close to what Jesus says in John 17. If our relationships are broken, hostile, and filled with bitterness, then the world will rightly look at us and reject our message. It is really pretty simple. If our love is too small the mission he gave us will not bear abundant fruit."
