Alum Achievements & Updates
Mary-Margaret McMaken, '09, attends the University of Mary Washington and recently became one of the university's Program Assistants for the SOAR (Service, Outreach and Activism Residence) program. This is quite an accomplishment for Mary-Margaret, as many students apply for this position and only a handful are selected. Service work has always been a part of Mary-Margaret's life and through this position she hopes to "help the students in the SOAR Community realize that service is not boring, but a fun and rewarding experience that anyone can do; and in the end, no matter how small the service project was, they made an impact on someone's life."
This past spring break, Mary-Margaret joined a group of University of Mary Washington students and faculty in a service project for Habitat for Humanity in New Smyrna, Florida. It's evident that Josh Bauer, '11, caught the |

spirit of Mother Teresa during his years at MTCES. While attending St. Xavier, he went on three mission trips and was involved with the Special Olympics.
St. Xavier students often collect canned food for the needy. Curious about the recipients of these collections, Josh embarked on three mission trips to Vanceburg, Kentucky to meet them.
These trips have helped direct Josh's path in life. "I want to help people when I get older," said Josh. He will begin studying at the University of Toledo this fall. He has been awarded an academic scholarship and recently applied to the Levis Leadership Program. After graduating, he hopes to obtain a position in the medical field.
Josh dedicated his Saturday mornings over the past four years to the Special Olympics. He helped people with disabilities bowl and keep score. Although he will miss these happy times, he is excited to see what the future has in store for him.

Chloe will be spending much of her summer in Tanzania, Africa shadowing and assisting doctors at a local hospital. She has also been selected for The Ohio State University 2014 Homecoming Court, and will be attending many associated events, culminating in appearances at the homecoming parade and football game.

Last February, four Badin High School sophomores were named to the prestigious J. Kyle Braid athletic leadership program. Among them was
Zach Larkin, '12. Ross Mulcare, '12, was selected as an alternate. For the past 20 years, the Braid Leadership Foundation has recognized students for their outstanding leadership potential, strong sense of moral values, and their compassion to help the world around them. This summer, Zach will attend a one-week leadership camp at the Braid Ranch in Villa Grove, CO. The Ranch emphasizes leadership training through recreation, problem-solving exercises, and positive peer efforts.
In May, Badin High School celebrated Academic Signing Day honoring the Top 10 in the class of 2014 and those graduating seniors in the $100,000 Scholarship Club. Several members of the MTCES Class of 2010 were recognized for receiving $100,000 or more in academic scholarships: Kyle Bergen (The University of Toledo), Evan Gantenberg (University of South Carolina), Katie Larkin (Ohio University), Jacob Schweinefuss (Thomas More College), and Emily Ullman (University of Dayton). Both Kyle and Evan were also members of Badin's Top 10. Jacob received the department award for business technology at Badin's Academic Awards Night.
Ellen Andrews, '10, Carli Scalf, '11, and A.J. Ernst, '13, also accomplished great things at Badin this past school year. Ellen was crowned Prom Queen and Carli received the University of Rochester George Eastman Award for leadership and impact. A.J. was ranked number one in the Class of 2017.

MTCES Student Pays It Forward
Logan Kiser, '20, joined the MTCES family as

a second grader this past school year. MTCES has been a natural fit for Logan and his family, residents of Middletown. Parents John and Avinne are active volunteers, little sister Addison was a welcome addition to the first grade, and little brother Grant will grace our halls soon. Logan's charitable spirit has become quite evident in his short time here with us.
After receiving the Sacrament of First Holy Communion last May, Logan received some gifts of cash. Rather than purchasing a video game or latest gadget, Logan gave $50 to his grandmother who teaches at a school in Harrison. There is a student there who never had lunch money, and Logan wanted to make sure his lunch was taken care of for the rest of the school year. After learning that the school PTA had already taken care of the student's meals, Logan pushed on, looking for another good cause.
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library, funded by the Middletown Community Foundation came to the forefront of his mind. His three-year-old brother Grant had been receiving a free book every month from the Library. His brother's reaction to the gift was motivation to support the effort. "He jumped around and bounced off the walls," Logan said. Logan wanted other youngsters to know this same excitement, so he donated his $50 to the Middletown Community Foundation. Inspired by his generosity, John and Avinne matched the gift and anonymous donor matched the Kiser family $100, bring the total donation to $200.
When asked why he decided to give his money away, Logan replied, "I already have enough stuff." Middletown Mayor, Lawrence Mulligan, Jr., proclaimed June 5th "Logan Kiser Day" in the city. How many 8-year-olds can say they have a day named after them?
