Name suggestions for Middle School No. 6 now being accepted

Have an idea for the name of our next middle school? Submit it! We're now accepting naming suggestions from the community for Middle School No. 6, which will be located across the street from Eaton High School and Schluter Elementary School in the Haslet area.

Submissions can be made online at www.nisdtx.org/nameschools. For those who prefer to submit a nomination through a paper format, the naming submission form can be downloaded here, printed and submitted to the Northwest ISD central office, located at 2001 Texan Drive in Fort Worth (though Justin must be written when submitted via physical mail).

Nominations can be made through Monday, Oct. 17. A naming selection committee will provide a recommendation to the Northwest ISD Board of Trustees on Monday, Nov. 14, which they will vote to approve or deny on Monday, Dec. 12.

Middle School No. 6 is anticipated to open in August 2018, with construction slated to begin at the end of 2016. Its attendance zone will be determined closer to its opening.
District welcomes 22,000th student
Northwest ISD has hit a new milestone with the enrollment of our 22,000th currently enrolled student! Byron Nelson sophomore Emmanuel Ramirez, seen here with Dr. Ryder Warren (left, superintendent) and Dr. Ron Myers (right, principal) was recently celebrated for becoming the noteworthy addition. Northwest ISD is expected to see significant and continued growth for the foreseeable future thanks to its vast 234 square miles and booming housing developments.
Drill teams hosting dance clinics in early October
The Byron Nelson Dazzlers, Eaton Sapphires and Northwest Sidekicks are all hosting dance clinics at the beginning of October, so be sure to sign up any children interested as soon as possible! The clinics take place on Saturday, Oct. 1, for the Sidekicks and Saturday, Oct. 8, for the Dazzlers and Sapphires. For more information about the clinics or to register, click here.
High school FFAs hosting annual meat fundraiser
Northwest ISD's FFA programs at Byron Nelson, Eaton and Northwest high schools kicked off their annual fundraiser recently with a free breakfast for teachers, and they have now begun selling meats and cookies until Thursday, Sept. 29. FFA students have meat sale forms upon request, or you can obtain information by calling the school front office and asking to be directed to a campus FFA supervisor. Funds raised by the meat and cookie sale will go directly to student programs, helping to alleviate costs for travel and events.
Free and reduced meal deadline is Oct. 3

Free and reduced meal applications must be completed each academic year, and the 2016-17 deadline is Monday, Oct. 3.

For families whose children received free or reduced-priced meals last year, they will automatically receive the same meal benefits for the first 30 days of school. Beginning Oct. 3, however, only students who have a application submitted and qualified for 2016-17 will receive free or reduced-price meals.

If you believe your family qualifies and have not yet completed the application, please apply online by clicking here. Follow the directions listed in the application, and if you have more than one child attending Northwest ISD schools, combine their names on a single application form.

A paper form can be picked up at the food services office (1800 U.S. Highway 114 in Justin) or at any Northwest ISD campus. For more information, please call 817-215-0007.
Learning about government
Thanks to Mayor Bob Golden of Haslet for recently visiting Thompson Elementary and speaking about the role of government in our everyday lives! Mayor Golden spoke to second-graders and answered questions about what local government is like.

Sports going strong
Football may get the bulk of attention in Texas, but lots of sports are also going strong right now, such as Byron Nelson's volleyball team, seen above, which is undefeated in district! View sports schedules at www.nisdtx.org/athletics.
