Northwest ISD is looking forward to kicking off a new school year on Monday! District staff have been working hard the last few weeks to prepare for the first day of school. Keeping your children safe remains our most important commitment to you. As a fast-growth school district, NISD has increased from 114 to 150 bus routes in the past year. NISD has partnered with Durham for more than 10 years to provide transportation to more than 50 percent of our students.
The forecast is predicting a 80 percent chance for rain on Aug. 22. Please keep the weather in mind as you help your child prepare and dress for school. While we try our best to collaborate with Durham to run timely transportation the first day of school, we do expect delays as we fine-tune our bus routes. You will receive a phone call if your child's bus is more than 20 minutes behind schedule. If your child's bus happens to be late, we apologize for the inconvenience and encourage you to contact Durham at 817-698-1287 if you have any concerns.
Durham has shared with NISD that they will have additional resources to address any significantly delayed busses and will dedicate extra staff the first week of school to provide customer support to our families. We appreciate your patience and understanding during the first week of school.
Additionally, please take this time to remind your children about the importance of safety. Many of our children walk or ride their bike to school. This
website has tips on going to and from school safely.
I assure you we in Northwest ISD are just as anxious about the start of a new school year as you and your families are. After more than 25 years in public education, I cannot explain to you the excitement I feel at the start of a new school year. I look forward to partnering with you and the NISD community to make every child in NISD future ready.
