Earn Green Cord Hours This Summer!
Attention parents!  Did you know your high school child can earn Green Cord hours this summer? The Green Cord Community Service Award Program is an initiative designed to help high school students gain a sense of community service, pride, and ownership. The program is a way to encourage 9-12 grade students to contribute at least 100 hours of approved community service per school year. Learn more about the importance of the Green Cord program here.
New Directors Named to Student Services
Suzie McNeese, Ed.D. (pictured at left)  is the district's new director of student services. Dr. McNeese has been the principal at Sendera Ranch Elementary School since it opened in 2008. She has served as principal of NISD's Hatfield and Hughes elementary schools.

Micah Gierkey (pictured at right) is the district's new director of special education. Gierkey has been the Northwest ISD special education supervisor for four years. She has served students in the district since 2002 working as a special education support teacher.

State Seeks Input On Assessment Programs
The Texas Commission on Next Generation Assessments and Accountability recently agreed to recommend that the Legislature explore alternatives to the STAAR test. The State Board of Education (SBOE) has issued a survey to seek public input about the state's current assessment and accountability programs and gather suggestions for future program development.

The survey is open online to all Texans through June 30 and is available in English and Spanish. NISD encourages parents, staff, and community members to participate in the survey, and let your voice be heard. Click here for the survey.
