PIE Shares Ways to Connect with NISD

Partners in Education (PIE) hosted the United for Kids luncheon on September 15 to engage community members on ways to get connected with NISD.  Approximately 40 attendees listened as organizations shared their experiences volunteering in NISD schools and received an opportunity to speak with a campus representative to learn how to get plugged in.  For more information about PIE, go to www.nisdtx.org/pie.

Ace Mart Recognizes Academy of Culinary Arts & Hospitality

Ace Mart Restaurant Supply presented the Academy of Culinary Arts & Hospitality with four large, engraved cutting boards in recognition of the academy's state championships in the Texas ProStart Invitational the last four years.


GE Transportation Employees Donate Time at Ag Science Center, Textbook Warehouse

More than 50 employees from GE Transportation donated their time at the Kelly Box Agricultural Science Center last week.  They constructed picnic tables, cleaned up brush, and power washed the barns.  GE volunteers also unloaded and sorted books at the textbook warehouse.


Byron Nelson Students Participate in

Chick-fil-A Leader Academy 


More than 200 students from seven area high schools including Byron Nelson High School packed more than 160,000 meals for Feeding Children Everywhere (FCE) as part of Chick-fil-A (CFA) Leader Academy Kickoff at BNHS.  Feeding Children Everywhere Event Lead Maria Fernandez said the meals will be distributed to the Tarrant Area Food Bank and other food banks around the Metroplex. 

CFA Leader Academy is a national high school leadership program focused on impact through action.  Through a unique Engage-Expose-Equip approach, CFA Leader Academy involves 30 students per school in a seven-month curriculum where they learn valuable leadership lessons, culminating in an end-of-program Impact Project.


Mentor Orientation October 22

Did you know you can make a difference in a child's life in just 30 minutes a week?  The NISD mentoring program brings together individual students with caring adults who have made a commitment to meet on the school campus to listen and offer encouragement to students.  If you are interested in becoming an NISD mentor, please call 817-215-0175.  Mentors are required to complete a background check, a mentor application and attend an orientation.  The next orientation will be held on October 22 at 12 p.m.  Please RSVP by October 19 to

CoServ Charitable Foundation Awards Justin Elementary PTA $10,000 Grant

The CoServ Charitable Foundation awarded a $10,000 grant to Justin Elementary School PTA to provide snack sacks for students each weekend during the 2015-2016 school year.


Culinary Arts Students Begin Work on Kids Fit Menu Challenge


 
A team of five culinary art students began working on the Kids Fit Menu Challenge for Medical City Children's Hospital and ProStart.  These students will be working to create three healthy menu items that will be included on the kids menu at Grapevine's P.F. Chang's.  The students will create the recipes, test them, photograph them and complete the nutritional analysis on them before they hit the menu at P.F. Chang's.
