Women's History Month Broadcast

on America ReFramed

PREMIERES TUESDAY MARCH 18, 8pm EST

Eighty percent of women in US prisons today are mothers of school-age children.

Filmed over four years at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, Jenifer McShane's MOTHERS OF BEDFORD explores the effects of a long-term prison sentence on the relationship between a mother and child.

The documentary follows five prisoners and mothers in dual struggles to be engaged in their children's lives and become their better selves. Is it possible to become a better mother while serving time in a maximum security prison?

Whether it be parenting's normal frustrations to celebrating a special day, from both inside and out of the prison walls, this moving film provides unprecedented access to a little known, rarely shown, community of women.

This broadcast is part of the Women's History Month program on America ReFramed. Check local listings for more MOTHERS OF BEDFORD broadcasts on PBS throughout the month. Follow #WomensHistory to find out more about the Women's History Month programming on World Channel
