DONATE NOW AND SUPPORT THE WORK OF WMM

Over the years, we have had the privilege of working with so many of you - filmmakers, educators, broadcasters, festival programmers, community leaders, organizers, and everyone who loves good films told from a woman's perspective. For 40 years, Women Make Movies has been changing the landscape for women filmmakers and making sure that audiences around the world have access to inspiring and empowering stories about women, told by women. But many of you may not know that we are a non-profit organization!

As the year draws to a close, we invite you to support our work by contributing to WMM and ensuring independent feminist media continues to thrive in the year ahead! All contributions count, no matter how small or how big. If everyone who viewed our website from now until the end of the year became a FRIEND OF WMM or made a contribution, we would reach our goal for the year. So spread some Holiday Cheer and help women filmmakers worldwide!

WMM @ SUNDANCE

2013 started with the triumph of Kim Longinotto's SALMA at Sundance! We are thrilled to announce that we have 3 films with support from our Production Assistance Program premiering this year at the Sundance Film Festival as well! Congratulations to our filmmakers and their teams! What a great way to start 2014!

KISMET
Last year we acquired some of our best selling titles at IDFA, including FORBIDDEN VOICES: HOW TO START A REVOLUTION WITH A COMPUTER, CAMERA/WOMAN, and RED WEDDING: WOMEN UNDER THE KHMER ROUGE. In 2014 we are looking forward to releasing 2 new films to audiences around the country; KISMET, a look at how Turkish soaps operas have impacted women's lives in the Middle East, and LIGHT FLY, FLY HIGH, an inspiring portrait of a Dalit Indian woman who is literally boxing her way to a job. Watch for our full slate of new releases in 2014.

KISMET, nominated for best Mid-length Documentary!

Throughout the year WMM has worked with groups around the world - from Bolivia to India to Bosnia & Herzegovina - to present films which challenge stereotypes and empower and highlight  human rights. One of those groups - SIDE BY SIDE LGBT International Film Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia made the news recently after a court in St. Petersburg overturned a verdict on appeal which had condemned a longstanding LGBT film festival as a "foreign agent" for allegedly accepting funding from outside the country. With this ruling overturned, the festival will go on for another year! Read more.
