SALMA, the World Documentary competition film by internationally acclaimed filmmaker Kim Longinotto (PINK SARIS, SISTERS IN LAW, ROUGH AUNTIES), premiered to a standing ovation and a great review in
Variety. All screenings are sold out through the festival. SALMA goes next to the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival , where it has just been nominated for the CINEMA Fairbindet Award.

The extraordinary outpouring of anger and solidarity now sweeping India in the wake of the Delhi rape case, is the culmination of a long, slow-boiling resistance to the victimization of women that stretches across the sub-continent. Among those at the forefront of this wave is the Tamil poet Salma, who, through her writing and by her own example, has shown how courage and creativity can triumph against an endemic misogyny.

John Anderson of Variety says: "Longinotto captures the moments that reveal much, but couldn't be articulated through interview questions or dialogue. SALMA, for all its celebration of a life lived against the grain, has a sweet strain of melancholy that resonates, and suggests the story isn't over."
