We are thrilled to announce that WMM has been selected to compete for $1,000,000 through the American Giving Awards, presented by Chase. The winners will be announced on NBC on December 8 in a special broadcast hosted by Joel McHale.

WMM was selected as one of 25 nonprofits from 700 groups that were eligible nationwide - and the only film organization chosen. We are competing as one of five groups in the Heroes & Leaders category. Watch our video here!

To expand upon our "Big Idea" from 2011 - to host 40 screenings in 40 cities to reach 400,000 women and girls - our goal is to reach 40,000,000 by utilizing the best possible resources in social media and technology. WMM will create a digital distribution platform that will allow films to be distributed to a wider global audience and create a sustainable solution for storytelling, dialogue and possibilities to CREATE, EDUCATE, INSPIRE & EMPOWER.

Voting will run from November 27 through December 4 on the Annual Giving Awards Facebook Page. Get ready to help WMM win the $1,000,000 so we can continue our work with women filmmakers and with audiences all over the world! Please bookmark the page and remember the date - and we'll be sending reminders closer to November 27.

Any support you are able to provide to help spread the word and get votes would be greatly appreciated - if you have a news blast, social media posting or any communications going out between November 27th - December 4th, inclusion of the above information will help!  Thank you in advance for your gracious, and continuing support of Women Make Movies - we could not do what we do without you.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving from all of us at WMM!

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Women Make Movies. Since its beginnings in 1972, WMM has grown from a feminist filmmakers' collective into an industry-leading nonprofit media arts organization and distributor. For 40 years, WMM has transformed the landscape of filmmaking for women directors and producers, bringing the issues facing women around the world to screens everywhere. Now, with more than 550 films in our catalog, including Academy®, Emmy®, Peabody and Sundance nominees and award winners, WMM is the largest distributor of films by independent women directors in the world. In the last five years, dozens of WMM films have been broadcast on PBS, HBO and the Sundance Channel, among others. In addition, in the last year, our Production Assistance (PA) Program has helped hundreds of women filmmakers raise $2.1 million to fund their productions from concept to completion, resulting in numerous award-winning films.
