Homecoming 2016
ONE LAST DANCE BEFORE GROWING UP

This year's Homecoming theme, A Night in Neverland, will take Dallastown Area High School students from a starry night in London to the fictional faraway place of Neverland for an evening of fun with friends and imaginary creatures.

Kicking off the week was the highly-anticipated Powder Puff game at 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 10th, when roles were switched and the high school girls played football while the high school football players cheered them on at Wildcat Stadium at the Dallastown American Legion Field. Some of the proceeds of the admission fee for this event benefited the HS Volunteer Club and its 2016 Support the Troops campaign.

Then tonight, the community is invited to join students and families as festivities continue with the annual Homecoming football game. The Dallastown Wildcats host the South Western Mustangs beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the stadium.

The week concludes tomorrow, Saturday, October 15th, with the Homecoming dance and crowning of the queen and king. Family, friends, and community members are invited to view the decorated areas of the high school lobby and gymnasium from 6:00 p.m. to 6:35 p.m. Those observing the student promenade must be seated in the gymnasium by 6:40 p.m.; public events conclude at 8:00 p.m.
Calling All Global Scholars!

In order to better prepare students for personal and professional success in an increasingly global society, the Dallastown Area High School World Language Department is introducing a new program to recognize students who participate in interdisciplinary studies and activities that are global in nature. Students who successfully complete the program will earn a Global Scholars certificate, a Global Scholars seal on their diploma and will wear a Global Scholars Honor cord at graduation.

To qualify, students must complete four years of a world language with a "B" average or higher, as well as four credits of global courses such as World Cultures, Philosophy, British Literature, Art and/or Music History, International Business, etc. Additionally, students must complete 20 hours of globally-based service activities, participate in a minimum of four extracurricular activities involving world languages and/or global-based themes, and complete eight literature/media reviews that focus on the themes of communities, connections, cultures, and comparisons.

According to Global Scholars Program advisor Cherie Garrett, the goal of the program is to enhance a student's chances of acceptance to a university or other postsecondary program in an effort to better prepare students for personal and professional success in the global community and marketplace.
This is How We Lockdown

In Dallastown Area School District, a lockdown is declared when, in the opinion of the administrator in charge or employee reacting to his/her environment, perceives a situation that threatens the safety of students and staff and/or requires all students and staff remain in their classrooms or move to a secure area immediately.

A lockdown announcement will include the rationale for why the lockdown is being called. A sample lockdown announcement may include:
  • "Your attention please: There is a lockdown in our building due to (cite reason why the lockdown is being called). All individuals in the building are to remain in, or report to, the nearest securable area and lockdown."
Triggers for a lockdown may include:
  • an announcement made via the PA system
  • a staff member directs the lockdown in person
  • a threat occurring outside the building
  • a non-threatening circumstance warrants keeping individual away from areas (i.e. medical emergency or disturbance)
This communication will allow students, teachers, and administrators to respond in a controlled manner to the situation at hand. Should further instructions be required, they will be included in the announcement. The most common lockdown will occur during medical incidents, such as when a hallway may need to be cleared to allow for emergency response personnel to tend to a medical situation.
