Lenexa Named One of Best Places to Raise Kids 2013
Bloomberg BusinessWeek has named the City of Lenexa as one of its "Best Places to Raise Kids 2013." Bloomberg identified one community in each state, and Lenexa is proud to learn of this recognition as the "Best Place to Raise Kids" in Kansas. Lenexa is also the only Kansas City community to be named on this list.
"We have always known Lenexa is a great place to live and raise a family," said Mayor Mike Boehm. "Inclusion on this prestigious list is an independent validation of this fact."
The list ranks cities based on a number of factors. According to the article, to determine the cities appearing on the list, "BusinessWeek teamed with Bloomberg Rankings to evaluate more than 3,200 places nationwide." By primarily weighing factors such as public school performance and safety, and factoring in the median income and county-level unemployment, housing costs, commute time and poverty, among other factors, BusinessWeek chose Lenexa as one of the 51 best in the country. The data was garnered from GreatSchools.org, the FBI, U.S. Census Bureau and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Lenexa has a resident population of about 49,000, with a similar number of people who work here. Lenexa enjoys a healthy business base and is considered a city of choice for a variety of high tech and bioscience companies, as well as a number of national and international headquarters. Residents are drawn to Lenexa in part because it is an attractive and safe city, with a rich history and a strong, hometown sense of community spirit. Known as the City of Festivals, Lenexa hosts numerous celebrations and events each year, including the Great Lenexa BBQ Battle and Spinach Festival.
All of this information was cited in the article as to why Lenexa was selected. Lenexa has also been named twice as one of Money Magazine's "Best Places to Live." To read Lenexa's information on the Bloomberg website, click here.
