ROCHESTER, NY | Diamond Packaging won six awards, including Best of Show, in the 23rd Annual FSEA Gold Leaf Awards Competition, the industry's premier showcase for foil stamping, embossing, and other specialty effects. Awards were announced at the FSEA National Conference in Orlando, FL, on April 4.

Diamond won Best of Show, as well as Gold Leaf and Bronze Leaf awards in the "Calendar" and "Self Promotion" categories, respectively, for its three-month corporate calendar, a popular promotional item given to customers and suppliers. This year's 2016 calendar marks the 25th anniversary of a long-standing company tradition. The grandfather clock theme, with its inner mechanisms perfectly balanced, was chosen to represent the collaborative and precise nature of Diamond's work.

The calendar was converted utilizing Clearwater Candesce SBS paperboard and offset printed with four-color process inks, UV matte coating, and UV gloss spot coating..

UK-based folding carton supplier Alexir Partnership is offering cost-effective packaging solutions for the booming artisanal food market after installing a digital sheet-fed printing, coating, and finishing workflow. It includes a Xerox iGen 4 sheet-fed digital printer with a TRESU Pinta coater integrated inline, and near-line, a KAMA ProFold 74 folder/gluer and Kongsberg Plotter. The TRESU Pinta features sleeve technology that ensures precise coverage at up to 5,000 sheets/hr. Fast sleeve-changes and an automatic, self-cleaning coating supply system limit job changeover times to just minutes even when switching between UV and water-based varnishes. Most jobs on the Xerox-TRESU line are below 5,000 units, though variable data run-lengths can be up to 100,000 units. Scott Beadell, digital production manager, says, "With the seamless integration of the coater inline with the printer, we achieve the look and feel of the final printed result without extra logistics, material waste, and setup times. You can see immediately what the final product will look like."

We had a great time in St. Louis, which included a ride to the top of the Gateway Arch with a great view of Busch Stadium.
