FEATURED STORY
This is the time of year when many companies put together their plans for next year. The planning process often starts with a set of assumptions about economic growth that includes forecasts for growth in real gross domestic product (GDP) in the countries or regions in which a company operates. A company might assume, as a first approximation, that demand for its products (and sales volume if market share is stable) grows with real GDP. However, for most companies, other economic indicators are much better gauges of volume growth than is real GDP. FULL ARTICLE

COOL CONVERTED PRODUCT
BALA CYNWYD, PA | An innovative six-pack carrier carton with a retractable handle, from PaperWorks Industries Inc., is being used by a Canadian brewer to help draw attention to its line of craft beers. To meet the brewer's objectives, PaperWorks' designers developed a two-piece carton--an auto-bottom base and a separate die-cut handle--made from 26-point solid unbleached sulfate. The carton base, which holds the 12 ounce beer cans, is easily erected by pulling open the previously glued and die-cut structure, allowing the base and the can partitions to fall into position. FEATURED INSTALLATION
Emerald Packaging, Union City, CA, has invested in the EFI Packaging Productivity Suite, including business intelligence and inventory-tracking components to optimize day-to-day operations and provide greater accuracy in pricing. "Our company has gotten larger, and our jobs more complex. We wanted seamless integration and business intelligence without having to write a program ourselves," said CEO Kevin Kelly. "The business intelligence module is a big advantage providing real time information about our performance. Our controller loves the accounting package because of its ease of use. We're excited about the accuracy of the pricing module as well." He adds, "Having a closed-loop system is also crucial. In serving the food industry, we must be able to track jobs back to the pallet of film used in the case of a recall. EFI's Packaging Suite allows us to do just that, and so much more."

Happy Hanukkah! I love this time of year because I get a chance to hear local high school students perform. This is the Carl Schurz High School Jazz Band in Chicago, which entertained our neighborhood holiday party recently. They were terrific. Anyone have fond memories of playing in their high school band or orchestra or perhaps singing in the choir? You can write to me at chine@pffc-online.com. -- Claudia Want to share your news with our subscribers? Send your company's announcements and new product releases to us for inclusion in E-Clips.
