FEATURED BLOG

Before moving into the who, what, where, when, and why of the following announcement, I want to take this space to thank all educators, as the new school year starts, who have dedicated their lives not simply to an institution but more so to the students who have done those educators proud.

At one time long ago, I was a high school and junior college instructor, so I know first hand how difficult the profession of teaching is. In fact, while I loved the "teaching" part and especially some special students who truly made my job most rewarding in a non-monetary fashion, I decided the commitment of teaching was all too-consuming if I continued at the pace I set for myself. I used to say that I wanted "a life."

FEATURED INSTALLATION

Eagle Systems has completed the installation of its Eco-Eagle Cold Foil system at Glenmore Custom Print + Packaging in Richmond, BC, Canada. It operates in unison with a Heidelberg XL 106 eight-color plus coater UV offset press. "We've spent the last month dialing the Eagle system in and learning its unique capabilities," says General Manager James Rowley. "So far the reaction from our clients has been positive. While cold foil will have an impact on our overall folding carton business, it'll really help us cultivate our higher-end confectionery, beverage, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical packaging segments. In addition, Eagle also offers us a new product range to offer our POP signage clients." He adds, "We even compared several other cold foil systems, but we saw the quality, reputation, reliability, and consistency that made the Eagle System the best choice." Pictured from left, James Rowley with Mike King, president of Eagle Systems, and Glenmore Operations Manager Stefan Congram as their new cold foil system fires up behind them.

PFFC CONFERENCES AT CPP EXPO | WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16

Dene Taylor-smaller
Modularization of the key inkjet components is opening up major markets to digital printing. And it is the traditional OEMs in those markets who are in the forefront. As they understand their customer requirements and are expert with the complete production line, their solutions are well designed, efficient, and encounter relatively few start-up issues. Dene Taylor's presentation will describe how these non-traditional digital OEMs are incorporating inkjet, why UV cure is taking a major share, and describe how electron beam (EB) cure is poised to expand the opportunities further.

Conventional analog printing methods, such as offset lithography, gravure, and flexography, provide cost effective ways to print long runs. Computer generated and communicated files and images, along with digital plate making, have improved the cost competitiveness of analog print methods. In-line digital marking and coding have enabled personalization and customization of analog printed mailings and packaging. Vince Cahill, president of VCE Solutions, will discuss new single-pass presses that offer high-resolution enhancement of packaging and other print applications.
