Whether the process being used is blown film, cast film, cast sheet, extrusion coating, extrusion lamination, adhesive coating, or adhesive laminating, all processes are subject to airborne contamination either in or on the finished product, says polymer processing expert Tom Bezigian. Here are some strategies to eliminate contamination, both from an electric viewpoint and an overall prevention viewpoint.

With the installation of a 1350-mm web width BOBST CL 850D multi-technology laminator, allflex Folienveredelung GmbH, Aachen, Germany, has broadened its activities in the production of aluminum laminates for the food packaging industry and the confectonery market segment. Exceptional productivity has allowed allflex to reduce the number of shifts per day from three to two. "The innovative technology of the BOBST CL 850D makes the machine suitable for all types of lamination. Therefore, we are confident that we are now well equipped to satisfy the current and future requirements of our customers," says Frank Heling (right), managing director, with machine operator Michael Becker. The machine is equipped with three coating systems facilitated by interchangeable trolleys. In addition to the gravure trolley, the allflex laminator comes with a dedicated trolley for solventless lamination and a flexo trolley, which is well suited for coating solvent-based adhesives directly onto thin aluminum foil.

PACK EXPO East Exceeds Expectations      

RESTON, VA | PMMI reports data from the recent PACK EXPO East, which debuted in Philadelphia February 16-18, show the event exceeded expectations on several fronts. The show owner/producer says the show featured more than 6,500 attendees, 386 exhibiting companies, and 92,413 net sq ft of exhibit space.
