Measuring roll hardness is like trying to figure out what is in a wrapped package, says web handling expert Tim Walker. The only true way to find out is to remove the wrapping, open the box and see what it is. Roll hardness will never beat actually running the material, but over time, you can find it is a reasonable predictor.
