Lean Flexibles, Hinckley, UK, has installed a Universal X6 slitting machine from Universal Converting Equipment to meet its needs for a wider web machine that minimized job setup times, produced consistent high quality rolls, and was able to run at high speed for processing flexible packaging materials. Darren Beardsley, technical director, said, "Setting shear knives used to take two people to lift the cutter shaft out and back in, and the knives would take a long time to set. Now we program the next slit pattern while the machine is running. Once the machine stops, the knives are set faster than we can load a new parent roll into the machine. The additional tension zone through slitting has helped us achieve consistently good quality slit edges even when running low rewind tensions."

 Congratulations to all the Patriots and Seahawks fans; you must be thrilled. Condolences to the Packers; that was a hard one to lose. Mike Derda, our former colleague from Wisconsin, says, "There are not enough couches in Wisconsin to accompany all the people who need to visit shrinks after the Packers blew a 12-point lead in 3-1/2 minutes."
