Traffic at Richmond International Climbing Again
Passenger traffic at Richmond International Airport resumed its climb in February after a 22-month growth streak was halted the month before when a January winter storm canceled 362 flights. The rebound means that there has been a recorded growth in passenger traffic for 24 of the past 25 months, according to a presentation delivered Tuesday morning to the Capital Regional Airport Commission at Richmond International. HOPEWELL - If you eat a breakfast bar or opt for pancakes and syrup and then later wash you hair with shampoo there is a good chance that you have used the products made at a large facility operated by Ashland Inc.

The Ashland Specialty Ingredients Hopewell plant is one of the largest cellulose derivative production facilities in the world. What is a cellulose derivative? Simply put it is a water-based thickener that is used in many products from latex paint to medical pills and a host of other consumer products.

Ashland produces specialty chemical solutions such as architectural coatings, labels, food packaging and additives for energy, construction and pharmaceutical brands.

Historically, there was a tendency to consider the Port of Richmond "this little thing over here that didn't really matter," said Kim Scheeler, president and CEO of the Greater Richmond Chamber, addressing an assemblage of state and local government officials, politicians and business leaders during a lunch at the chamber's downtown offices on Wednesday.

That, officials say, is changing. 

Scheeler was introducing Port of Virginia CEO and President John Reinhart, who was about to deliver the first-ever State of the Port Address in Richmond.
