FORT LEE - Soldiers in the Allied Trades military occupational specialty at Fort Lee's Ordnance School learn how to weld - first through a video game-like stimulator - with the opportunity to receive national credentials.

Students in the program must learn both welding and machining and can chose to take credential exams by the National Institute for Metalworking Skills and the American Welding Society to prepare them for civilian jobs. Both of the trades are taught together in the same military occupational specialty for 19 weeks total, with approximately seven weeks in phase 1A, eight weeks in phase 1B and three weeks in phase 2.
