New Dinwiddie Fertilizer Plant Will Be Fully Operational in Weeks

DINWIDDIE - A $6 million fertilizer production plant is expected to bring in more than 20 jobs over the next several years.

The plant - Agri-Nutrients Associates LLC - will be in full operation by Oct. 1, according to president and owner Ben Wilson.

Agri-Nutrients will be producing a product known as gypsum, according to Dinwiddie County. It provides calcium and sulfur nutrients for plant growth and soil crops, sports turf, commercial and consumer landscape and turf.

The plant is located off U.S. Rt. 1 on Hofheimer Way. It will bring in 24 new jobs over the next three years, Wilson said.

Virginia's workforce training system is strained, and continuous budget cuts to its vaunted system of higher education threaten to leave the state behind as a good place to do business or get a quality education. 

That message, delivered as a "call to arms," in the words of one speaker, came across loud and clear during Wednesday's 2014 Virginia Summit on Economic Competitiveness & Higher Education at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.
