RICHMOND -- Gov. Terry McAuliffe signed an executive order Tuesday requiring state agencies to award more than 42 percent of contracts to small businesses.

 

The governor's order said the target would be the highest percentage of state contracts to go to businesses certified as small, women-owned and minority owned (SWaM status) since the state began tracking this data in 2004.

PETERSBURG - Residents of impoverished urban areas often have no access to fresh, affordable food - a reality that may be solved locally with the renovation of the Harding Street Community Center into a high-tech urban farm.

 

The project, which is funded by a $1.5 million federal grant, is a collaboration with Virginia State University faculty that brings a little bit of nature, and nutrition, to where it's needed most.
