CSED is excited to announce our Kickstarter campaign for "The Center: A Sustainable Historic House". With your contributions, we can finish renovating 5227 Chartres St. and become an educational center. Every dollar counts!   The campaign will launch on Sunday, September 28th, 2014 at 12:01 am CT. City of New Orleans meeting tonight in Holy Cross
 
Please join the City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works (DPW) tonight, September 25, at 6 p.m. to learn more about planned infrastructure construction in our Holy Cross neighborhood. The meeting will take place at Greater Little Zion Baptist Church, 5130 Chartres Street. 

The FEMA-funded Recovery Roads - Holy Cross project is scheduled to begin in mid-October and will last through summer 2015. The project is designed to address Hurricane Katrina related damage. The scope of work may include replacing damaged water lines, roadway patching and some sidewalk replacements.

Youth workforce construction training with Louisiana Green Corps 
 
Louisiana Green Corps is
recruiting youth ages 18 - 21 for their workforce construction training. It's a 14 week program in which youth can earn construction-related certifications, receive a weekly stipend and get job placement assistance.

Registration is open for radiant barrier class 

The Southeast Louisiana Coalition of the Air Conditioning Industry is offering a class entitled "Radiant Barrier - Why Contractors & Homeowners Need to Understand this Option for Heatload Reduction". The class will take place Thursday, Oct. 2 at Local 60, Plumbers Hall, 3515 N. I-10 Service Rd. Metairie, LA 70002 (Across from Landmark Hotel). The cost is $20 in advance and $30 at the door.
Urban restoration mapping blitz

The Public Lab Urban Restoration Mapping Blitz is a new event that will kick off a mapping project aimed at tracking the progress of eight urban wetland restoration projects near Lake Pontchartrain. The event will take place Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Rosa F. Keller Public Library at 9 a.m. Participants can enjoy free lunch and a day of creating aerial imagery, photography, scavenger hunts and map building.

The St. David Church 2014 Parish Fair is this Saturday, Sept. 27 (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.) and Sunday, Sept. 28 (noon - 6 p.m.) at St. David Church, 5617 St. Claude Ave. The festivities will include raffles, a prince and princess pageant, carnival game, a car show hosted by Stanley Stewart (Saturday) and a motorcycle show hosted by 9th Ward Riderz MC (Sunday).
