Lower 9 Leads New Orleans in Solar Capacity

New research suggests that the Lower Ninth Ward is leading the city in solar energy production. Since 2007, ten percent of all solar system permits issued by the City of New Orleans have been for residences in the Lower Ninth Ward, even though the neighborhood contains only two percent of the city's population. According to the report produced by the New Orleans Sierra Club, the Lower Ninth Ward has been issued five times more solar permits, per capita, than has the rest of the city.

Property Assessment Rolls Open

Property assessment rolls are open through Thursday, August 15. Individuals may visit the Assessor's Offices on the 4th floor of City Hall, 1300 Perdido St., or the Algiers Courthouse, 225 Morgan St. Beginning July 22, property owners may also visit the Lakeview Christian Center, 5885 Fleur De Lis Dr. These locations will be open on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

To contest an assessment value, you must bring your assessment letter and documentation to support your claim, such as a recent appraisal, a builder's contract, photos or insurance coverage of the property.

No appointment is necessary; individuals will be assisted on a first-come, first-serve basis at all locations.

Those unable to visit offices during the allotted time period or who wish to bypass this step may file an appeal directly to the Board of Review at the locations listed before 4 p.m., Tuesday, August 20.
Sincerely,

Warrenetta C. Banks
