... Especially in June
| |
By Father Sean Cox
The month of June often includes milestone events: graduations, weddings, engagements, retirements, and other causes for celebration. As you attend events near and far, take the opportunity to share the love of God.
If you're attending a milestone event, talk to people about the meaning of the occasion. Beyond the common discussion of "they sure grow up fast" is a conversation about the cycles of life and God's place in each of our stories.
When milestone events happen away from home, visit other churches to see their perspectives. What's their focus? How are you welcomed? What can Faith Church learn from others?
Do you have family or friends visiting? Invite them to church! We're not slowing down much this summer. Events such as Vacation Bible School will keep us up and going all summer. Share Faith Church with someone you know.
Whether you're attending a family event, going on vacation, or welcoming guests this June, bring Faith with you.

Faith to Go: One Weekend, One Church, Many Placesh
| |
By Father Sean Cox
What if....
We took church into our community for one weekend?
What if...
You combined your interests with church?
What if...
You invited friends, neighbors, co-workers, family members, and other people important to you to an event in your home or other place for an informal gathering that included worship?
What if...
We try it during the weekend of August 2-4!
Here's how it works:
Members of Faith Church are encouraged to host events around the community. Fr. Sean will visit each event to lead a discussion about faith and/or a worship service.
Event examples:
- Pool party
- Board game night
- Backyard barbeque
- Organize a sporting event, i.e. softball, volleyball game
- Picnic in a park
- Attend a sporting event & host a tailgate party
- Wine & cheese party
- Community service volunteer event
- Coffee shop gathering
- Bar or restaurant
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Why are we doing this? A: To invite people to experience our church community.
Q: When would we have events? A: Beginning Friday morning, concluding Sunday night
Q: Will we have regular services on August 4? A: We'll still have both Sunday services on August 4.

The GRACE Network:
Guys and Gals Resolved Against Child Exploitation
Join the Fight to Raise Awareness and Bring Lasting Change
On Sunday, June 30, Faith Church will welcome Chris Stambaugh of The Grace Network (TGN).
Chris will give the sermon about TGN's mission to stop human trafficking in the vicinity of Sacramento.
After the service there will be an informal time to meet Chris and fellowship together. Lunch will be served. Neighboring churches have been invited to join us as we hope to raise awareness of this critical need.
Please invite a concerned friend and come learn what we can do to address the contributing factors that perpetuate the cycle of sexual exploitation of children, teens and young adults in our community.
Please RSVP for lunch using the bulletin insert or email the church office.
Easter Offering Helps
With thanks that one-half of this year's Easter offering went to Rebuilding Together Sacramento.
Here is a description of what we do:
Volunteer a few hours of hard work and give years of hope to someone in need.
A hammer = safety
A paintbrush = hope
A drill = independence
Imagine losing the ability to maintain your own home. The home should be a refuge; a place to weather the storms of life, and age gracefully. Unfortunately, for thousands in the region, their home contributes to falls, illness and stress.
The rising cost of living, an aging housing stock and population has left thousands of our most vulnerable neighbors without the basic of necessities - a safe, healthy and efficient home. Leaky roofs, lack of heat and general decay compounded by financial and physical difficulties contributes to home injuries, high energy bills, lack of mobility and deterioration. This crisis is costly to the individual, community and the healthcare system.
Rebuilding Together strives to create safe and healthy homes by repairing over 600 homes annually. Their cost-effective work is possible due to the use of volunteers and community donations.

DivorceCare, a helping hand .
You don't have to go through it alone
Most people will tell you that separation and divorce are the most painful and stressful experiences they've ever faced. It's a confusing time when you feel isolated and have lots of questions about issues you've never faced before.
DivorceCare meet weekly to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life.
Each DivorceCare session has two distinct elements:
A Seminar with Experts
During the first 30-40 minutes of the meeting, each DivorceCare group watches a video seminar featuring top experts on divorce and recovery subjects. These videos are produced in an interesting-to-watch television magazine format featuring expert interviews, real-life case studies and on-location video.
A Support Group with Focus
After viewing the video, DivorceCare group participants spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week's video seminar and what is going on in the lives of group members.
Meeting at Faith Church on Wednesdays, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. from June 12 - September 10. For more information, contact Carolyn Flood who is listed in our on-line directory.

Women's Book Group

by Karen Reid
One Woman's Faith Journey
.
June's book is Anne Lamott's Traveling Mercies, the first book she wrote about her faith journey. We will meet on Thursday, June 6th at 9:30 in the library at Faith Church. All women are invited to join us.
On June 23, members of the book club, and any others who may be interested, will travel to a benefit tea at Anne Lamott's home in Fairfax. The tea is co-hosted by Anne Lamott, Janine Reid and The Rev. Tom Weston, and benefits a school in Myanmar. For more information please contact Karen Reid, who is listed in our on-line directory.
Planning ahead, the group will also meet in July. On the 11th, (not the 4th!) to discuss A Lineage of Grace: Five Stories of Unlikely Women Who Changed Eternity by Francine Rivers. From Amazon: In this compilation of the five books in the best=selling Lineage of Grace series by Francine Rivers, we meet the five women whom God chose - Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba and Mary. Each was faced with extraordinary - even scandalous - challenges. Each took great personal risk to fulfill her calling. Each was destined to play a key role in the lineage of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World.
Child care is provided for the group. Please le me know if you will need child care so we can ensure we have enough supervision. Please contact Karen Reid, who is listed in our on-line directory.

Farewell, but not Good-bye
| | |
by Kim Kreth
It is with very mixed emotions, that Jim and I depart our home in Shingle Springs and our church family at Faith Church, for the new adventure that awaits us in Nashville, TN.
Father Sean has hired Barbara Gillespy as the next Parish Administrator. Barbara was our first Church Secretary when we were in the store-front. When she needed a job with more hours, Father McNair hired me. And just like that - 15 years have passed.
In true Faith Church fashion, we will transition this position much as we transitioned between rectors. Barbara will begin at Faith Church on June 4. My last day will be June 14.
The church is in a good place for this transition to take place. With Barbara knowing so many in the congregation, I can't think of a way to make the transition smoother.
Jim and I will both will miss our many friends and fellows on the path of Christian life who "do church" here at Faith. I have learned and grown so much as a Christian during my years of service to the congregation. God has been good, and I trust it will always be so.
With family in the area, we will still show up for worship when we are here.
