
Wilmington, Del. - June 5, 2013 - Lyons Companies, a Delaware based risk management, commercial insurance brokerage, employee benefits and human capital management consulting firm, is pleased to announce that Joseph W. Valerio has joined the firm as Vice President, Business Development.
Joe will be responsible for market growth and leadership, spearheading the business development process and providing sales leadership and coaching for the Lyons team of Risk Management Advisors. He will also be responsible for identifying merger and acquisition opportunities and growing brand recognition for the firm's four service platforms: commercial and personal risk management, employee benefits, alterative risk financing (captives) and human capital management.
A highly regarded and seasoned professional in the insurance community, Joe comes to Lyons Companies from TD Insurance/USI Insurance Services. Prior to that he was Managing Director for Wells Fargo Insurance Services Philadelphia office where he was responsible for overall growth, leadership, implementation of strategic goals and objectives.
Before entering the insurance industry, Joe had a six-year career with the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs, starting at every position on the offensive line, including tight end. As an offensive lineman he caught an NFL-record four touchdown passes, three from the legendary Joe Montana. He held an active role in the Kansas City community and in 1995 was nominated for NFL Man of the Year for outstanding community service.
Joe earned an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. As a football player at Penn, he earned all-America first team honors and was elected the team captain. In 2006 he was inducted in the University of Pennsylvania Athletic Hall of Fame.
Joe works closely with local youth groups coaching football and lacrosse. He is an assistant football coach with Garnet Valley High School. Joe has dedicated much of his time to the March of Dimes, serving as Board Chair of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter Board of Directors and a long-time Ambassador Family with his wife and triplet daughters.
