Teddy Kelly Mural Attracting Visitors

The Teddy Kelly abstract mural on the corner of 8th and Los Angeles Street has become a fun new attraction in the district. Visitors to the mural have taken Instagram photos matching the mural to their outfit.

Fashion blogger Sara Escudero of Collage Vintage also Instagramed herself at the mural recently. She boasts an Instagram following of 627k.

Vanessa Hudgens Shops the Fashion District

Actress Vanessa Hudgens was in the district earlier this month. She was photographed by a fan who posted the photo on Instagram. That same weekend, fashion blogger Jane Aldrige from Sea of Shoes hosted vintage pop-up market, A Current Affair at the Cooper Building. Perhaps Hudgens was here to shop the market, which is known for its expertly curated goods. Last month Karlie Kloss Snapchatted herself in the district. It's been quite the year for celebrity sightings so far!

March 2016 Trash Tonnage Report

BID Staff Met with Chief of Police Charlie Beck to Discuss Homelessness
At April's CCA Executive Committee, Chief of Police Charlie Beck addressed CCA members about LAPD's ongoing efforts to combat homelessness.

Homelessness continues to be one of the most pressing issues that downtown stakeholders are concerned about. Chief Beck recognizes that people living on the streets is detrimental to public safety. He believes that solving the issue will take a collaborative effort between all stakeholders and will require strong local leadership. Also at the meeting, Chief Beck introduced new Chief for the Central Bureau, Deputy Chief Robert N. Arcos.

Members raised concern over recent attacks on seniors by homeless individuals and the negative effects it will have on the "downtown renaissance." Chief Beck responded by stating that LAPD has doubled the number of System-wide Mental Assessment Response Teams (SMART) to deal with this issue.
