The "We Are One" Sensory Dinner Party is part of artist Buckley's On Going In exhibit at pskaufman... gallery. Chef Gladys Nyoth of Mbombo will be serving cuisine from the regions of Nigeria, Cameroon, Morocco, and Ivory Coast. On Going In is an exhibition of Buckley's first large-scale drawing series, featured within a multimedia installation that gives an insight to the flow states she accesses in the creative process. Business Leaders, Government, and Advocacy Groups Meet to Discuss Homelessness
LA Fashion District BID Executive Director Kent Smith met with the Mayor's Office, Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), Los Angeles Housing and Community Investment Department (LAHD), County Department of Mental Health, the Veterans Administration, Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, and United Way to discuss solutions for the growing number of homeless individuals in the County. Home for Good, the initiative to end homelessness in Los Angeles, convened the meeting.
Next week, the BID will be attending the California Downtown Association's Homeless Policy Forum where BIDs from all over California will meet to discuss and learn about homelessness issues and actions BIDs can take to address these them.
June 2015 Trash Tonnage Report
Trash tonnage for the month of June increased by 10 tons compared to June 2014. The BID is now collecting an average of 6.29 tons of trash per day.
Save the Date: National Night Out, August 4
LAPD Central City Police Boosters is hosting National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4th, 5-9 p.m. at Chick Hearn Court and Georgia Street (L.A. Live). Special highlights will include the LAPD Swat & Bomb Squad, Fire Department, live music and entertainment, free family activities, and giveaways.
LADWP Proposes 5-Year Water and Power Changes
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is proposing a five-year rate action that seeks modest water and power rate increases each year based on the following priorities and key principles:
- Replacing aging water and power infrastructure
- Transform water and power supplies
- Improve customer service
- Keep rates competitive
Low-use customers will have a combined water and power bill increase of 2.4% on average per year and high use customers will pay about 5.4% more per year. For more information please visit www.myladwp.com.
