Federal, County, and City Leaders Pledge to End Homelessness in 2015



On Tuesday, January 29, federal, county, and city leaders pledged to end veteran homelessness in Los Angeles by the end of 2015. At a morning press conference, Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald, Mayor Eric Garcetti, District Attorney Jackie Lacey, the Los Angeles Business Leaders Task Force, and United Way announced their commitment to the Home for Good plan. Home for Good is a United Way initiative to end veteran homelessness in Los Angeles County.

 

The unprecedented meeting was a result of hard work and collaboration between the Business Leaders Task Force, United Way, and City leaders. LA Fashion District Executive Director, Kent Smith is a member of the Business Leaders Task Force. The Fashion District has been deeply involved in the Home for Good effort since its inception.

 



FREE Art, Music, & Entertainment on Broadway this Saturday, January 31

Night on Broadway is this Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. along the Broadway corridor. There will be multi-cultural entertainment in 7 of Broadway's historic theaters, open to the public for free. Broadway restaurants, bars and businesses will be open, many offering specials for Night on Broadway participants. Restaurants and Broadway's historic Grand Central Market vendors will be open late with special Night on Broadway programming. Verve Coffee Roasters Now Open on Spring St.
 



Verve Coffee Roasters is now open at 833 S Spring Street! This is the first of three locations the Santa-Cruz based cafe is expected to open in Los Angeles, and it is beautiful. Formerly the home of LA's City Club, Verve has completely transformed the "dancing girls" space and created a lush outdoor patio. Award-winning barista Devin Chapman is heading the coffee bar. In addition to quality coffee from around the world, Verve is currently offering a selection of carefully curated goods from local Fashion District retailers such as Aesop and Tanner Goods.




Verve is the latest addition to the growing coffee scene in the Fashion District, joining Stumptown Coffee at The Ace, The Classic on 9th and Main, and COFFEE Collab on 8th and Santee.




L.A. Fast Track: The Outlook for Downtown's Growth and the Future of Transit

Central City Association (CCA) will host a half day summit on the growth of downtown Los Angeles and what it means for transportation in and around the city. There will be two panels: 1. Economic Outlook for Downtown Los Angeles and 2. International Innovations in Transportation and What They Could Mean for Downtown LA. Hedley & Bennett, Chef's Aprons made in the Fashion District

An article in the LA Downtown News highlights Ellen Bennett's, Hedley & Bennett, a business that designs and manufactures custom-designed aprons for restaurants and chefs. It is located in the Fashion District at the ANJAC building at S Broadway and Olympic Boulevard. The business has a 14 person sewing staff and a dozen administrative staff. All of its products are made in downtown Los Angeles.

Saying Goodbye to Lynn Myers, Managing Director of the LA Fashion District

On January 27th, the board of directors and staff of the LA Fashion District BID said goodbye to founding staff member Lynn Myers. After 20 years as the Managing Director, Lynn has decided to retire with her husband and enjoy life in Lake Arrowhead. We thank her for her tremendous vision and leadership from the beginnings of the BID to leading us through three renewals! She will be missed!
