BID Safe Team Officers Commended by LAPD

LAPD Sgt. Rueda commended BID Safety Team Officers Acosta-Blakemore, Garles, Pineda, and Sale for their professionalism and helpfulness during an incident on August 30, 2014. The Safety Team officers called for LAPD assistance when they witnessed a battery incident, detained the suspect, and assisted the victim while waiting for police to arrive at the scene.

U.S. District Attorney Raid on Several LA Fashion District Businesses

Federal agents raided several businesses in the LA Fashion District on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. While more than a dozen locations were targeted, only four local businesses were named in the indictments. LA Fashion District Executive Director, Kent Smith, was quoted in a Los Angeles Times article saying, "There are 4,000 businesses in the area that generate billions of dollars a year in economic activity. It's unfair to paint the rest of the legitimate businesses.. with what a small number of businesses may be doing in terms of illegal activity."

The BID has been responding to many calls an emails regarding the raid, including several media outlets, and will continue to communicate with the press as needed.

Bureau of Street Services Vending Enforcement Continues

On September 6, 2014,  Bureau of Street Services (BSS) Vending Enforcement officers arrived at 5 a.m. to the location of the San Pedro Swap Meet on 12th and San Pedro Streets. BID Safe Team officers assisted BSS in picking up racks, tables, shopping carts, and apparel that were abandoned by illegal vendors. Enforcement will continue for an unspecified time period.
 

City Council Considers Sidewalk Cost-Sharing Repair Program

Los Angeles City Council Members are seeking ways to fix the city's broken sidewalks, starting with a slate of reports on how to fund a cost-sharing repair program. The council voted unanimously on September 2, 2014, with three abstentions, to have city departments conduct the studies and present reports within several weeks. City of Los Angeles Online Business Tax Registration

Continuing its efforts to make it convenient for businesses to operate in the City of Los Angeles, the Office of Finance announced today the availability for businesses to obtain a Business Tax Registration Certificate online in lieu of needing to mail in an application or visit a service office in person.
