Myrlie Evers, former chair of the NAACP and widow of civil rights leader Medgar Evers, said, "I could not help but think about how far we have come to this point. And how proud I am of Mississippi and how proud I am that these two buildings are going to show the world-not only the state of Mississippi, not only other states, but the world-who we are, where we have been, where we are today and where we are going."

It's a marriage built out of business, but it is definitely a partnership, and we appreciate our partnership with Ingalls."

Adm. Papp's wife, Linda Kapral Papp, is the ship's sponsor. She smashed a ceremonial bottle across the ship's bow, officially christening WMSL 753, "Hamilton."

Mississippi Civil Rights,
History Museums to Play Important
Role in Mississippi's Future

Greetings!

Thursday marked a great day for Mississippi as state officials and community leaders broke ground on the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum and the Museum of Mississippi History in Jackson.

The two museums will be housed in the same building and share public spaces and classrooms, but each will have its own unique look and exhibits. The groundbreaking marked a significant milestone in the long journey that will be completed when the museums open in 2017 -- the year Mississippi will celebrate 200 years of statehood.

There were a lot of people that worked to make this happen, but two people - former Governor William Winter and former Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Reuben Anderson, an MEC Past Chair - never stopped working to make their dream a reality.

These facilities will focus on the story that needs to be told in a way that will enlighten everyone on our great state's past and how these events have set the stage for a bright and promising future.
