Gov. Phil Bryant unveiled his comprehensive plan for capitalizing on Mississippi's energy strengths and bringing more energy jobs and research to the state. Gov. Bryant presented the plan at the conclusion of his "Governor's Energy Summit" in Jackson on Oct. 4. The Governor's Energy Summit was sponsored by the Mississippi Energy Institute.
"As I said in my inaugural State of the State Address, our energy economy will drive Mississippi's economic growth in the 21st century," Gov. Bryant said. "The world's energy demands will continue to grow, and Mississippi is in the position to become a dominant force in the energy industry. My energy plan establishes a comprehensive framework that will position Mississippi for new jobs, new growth and a future built on reliable, affordable energy."
Energy Works: Mississippi's Energy Roadmap, details opportunities in six key focus areas that will play vital roles in growing Mississippi's energy economy:
- Enhancing Mississippi's position as a top state for oil and gas-related exploration and extraction
- Promoting Mississippi's competitive advantages, maximizing energy resources and expanding the energy value chain
- Expanding energy capacity through conservation and efficiency
- Developing transportation and energy infrastructure to meet growing demand
- Increasing energy-focused research and development
- Meeting the workforce needs of the energy industry

House Speaker Philip Gunn To Hold
Statewide Ideas-Sharing Forums
|
Speaker Gunn
|
Speaker of the House Philip Gunn will visit towns around Mississippi in an effort to create an idea-sharing forum for all Mississippians. Speaker Gunn will be making various stops around the state during the week of October 8, 2012.
Mississippi Solutions-an Ideas Tour is a non-partisan town hall style meeting for all Legislators, citizens and the press.
"After the session ended, I knew I wanted to hear from people around the State about their ideas they have for the future of Mississippi," said Gunn, who also completed his first session as Speaker of the House in May. "We thought the best way to do this would be to set out on an Ideas Tour where we could hear from the public about topics they wanted to see addressed in future sessions."
During the 2012 Legislative Session, Speaker Gunn strove to create a functional House of Representatives. He appointed chairmen from both parties, encouraging bipartisanship conversations.
Each meeting will last one hour and 15 minutes.

Mississippi Positioned to Benefit from Growth in Energy Sector
Greetings!
Congratulations to Governor Phil Bryant - and to the Mississippi Energy Institute under the leadership of its Chair Barry Cannada of Butler, Snow, O'Mara, Stevens & Cannada and MEI President Patrick Sullivan and his team - and to Brent Christensen and his team at the Mississippi Development Authority, for staging an overwhelmingly successful Governor's Energy Summit on Thursday at the Jackson Convention Complex. Over 800 business leaders, economic developers, state and local governmental officials and students from every corner of the state convened to hear a special address by former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and major presentations by Southern Company CEO Thomas Fanning, Dr. Jeff Wadsworth, CEO of Battelle and Governor Bryant - plus special presentations by private sector leaders in energy policy and energy production and distribution. The program also honored Mississippi high school and college students who are leading in energy studies and innovation. The bottom line? Mississippi is well positioned to benefit from the growth of the energy sector, as evidenced by a special report commissioned by the Mississippi Energy Institute and conducted by the internationally renowned Battelle research organization - and as positioned by Governor Bryant who drew on the report and other resources to develop his energy plan for Mississippi - "Energy Works: Mississippi's Energy Roadmap." I hope you will take a moment to review the Governor's plan available at a link from this page and become more familiar with the Mississippi Energy Institute and the important work it is conducting to position Mississippi in the place of greater opportunity when it comes to taking full advantage of our state's energy resources. MEI is at the point and in the lead in helping boost our energy opportunities and Thursday's Governor's Energy Summit is an example of the good results that come from this organization's leadership and focus to work in partnership with Governor Bryant in putting Mississippi on the national and international energy map. Keep the Faith.
