Festival Opera Launches "Opera Lite"
Free at the Walnut Creek Marriott March 19

Christopher Bengochea
Carrie Hennessey

Festival Opera is proud to announce a new project, Opera Lite -- a series presenting familiar opera arias combined with lighter fare: popular songs and Broadway show tunes. Designed to be both an introduction to opera for newbies and fun for opera enthusiasts, Opera Lite events will provide a convenient and social  environment to enjoy music, food and good company. Opera Lite will debut on Thursday, March 19, at 7 p.m. at the Walnut Creek Marriott, 2355 North Main St., Walnut Creek.

The debut of Opera Lite will be a concert called, "Music of the Night", and will feature Bay Area opera stars Carrie Hennessey and Christopher Bengochea with piano accompanist, Simona Snitkovsky. A special prix fixe menu and wine specials will also be offered in Atrio at the hotel.

Christopher Bengochea is a critically-acclaimed and prize-winning international opera tenor who appeared in Festival Opera's 2014 season production of The Emperor of Atlantis as well as previous productions. A former resident artist of Opera San Josť, he is currently appearing in Livermore Valley Opera's production of Lucia di Lammermoor.

Known for her ability to bring great musical and theatrical depth to her performances, soprano Carrie Hennessey is a powerful and talented artist. Ms. Hennessey was seen recently in the Bay Area Premiere of Jake Heggie's The End of the Affair at West Edge Opera, and in the role of Blanche DuBois in Townsend Opera and Fresno Grand Opera's co-production of Andre Previn's Streetcar Named Desire. Ms. Hennessey's portrayal of the title role in the West Coast Premiere of Tobias Picker's opera Emmeline earned her a nomination in the 2010 Bay Area Broadway World Awards for Best Leading Actress in a Musical.
