Festival Opera is pleased to announce that we will be bringing an opera production to Oakland in December.
The production is a new opera pastiche that explores what it means to be judged by our appearance -- particularly for an individual with a visible affliction or disability. What is the impact of compassion and of acceptance, especially self-acceptance?
These fibers are woven throughout the first act of About Face - an opera experience. The second act is Henry Mollicone's iconic work, The Face on the Barroom Floor. Click for More Information about the production.
In addition to performances at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, Festival Opera will be presenting this production at Oakland Technical High School, and is planning to engage students in workshops on opera performance and production. The school has recently undergone a renovation of its 900-seat theater, and will be the venue for two 7 pm performances
on Friday, December 7 and Saturday, December 8. General seating $25. Address: at 4351 Broadway at 42nd Street. Tickets: Click here or call 800.838.3006. Click for more Ticket Information.

Michael Morgan Conducts Oakland East Bay Symphony's Opening Night Friday, November 9

Here's your chance to see Michael Morgan at the podium! Oakland East Bay Symphony kicks off its season on Friday, November 9 -- the week of the presidential election -- with an exciting all-American program that celebrates democracy in action.    Michael Morgan leads the orchestra in Leonard Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, Aaron Copland's Clarinet Concerto, with soloist Bill Kalinkos, works by local composers Olly Wilson and Gordon Getty, and a fanfare by Adolphus Hailstork. The concert begins at 8pm at the glorious Paramount Theatre in downtown Oakland. A pre-concert talk by John Kendall Bailey begins at 7pm.
Tickets are available online through the Symphony's new online ticketing system, or by calling 510-444-0801. Click for more information and to buy tickets.
