Do You Marketing to Humans?
Put Human Nature to the Test

If you're trying to market a product or service, the obvious thing you need to do is capture the attention of your target audience. The best way to do that is to use the audience's basic human nature to your advantage. Here are 7 ways you can leverage what we know about people to improve your marketing results.

Play to Their Gut Reactions

Human beings have gut reactions to everything they sense. For example, drinking a hot beverage can often make people feel warm and comfortable, putting them in a better mood. Offer your prospects a cup of coffee or tea, and you'll see an increase in your chances of success in sales meetings.

Repeat Your Message

It might seem silly, but think about all of the repetitive commercials you've seen on television. Many of those slogans and symbols have stuck in your mind, right? So, why not use that same technique on your prospects? It's a tried and true marketing trick.

Do Something Surprising

Human beings are knocked off-balance when they are surprised - in a good way. Surprises really grab our attention, especially since we have a powerful and natural sense of curiosity. If you are trying to market a product or service to someone, you should definitely do something unexpected, but make sure that whatever it is will be viewed in a positive light.

Establish Your Expertise

Studies have shown over the years that people tend to trust those who are experts in their field, even if they don't personally know those experts. So, if you want people to trust you, make sure they not only know that you are an expert, but also know how you came to be one. Show off your credentials proudly, clearly, and often.

Give Clients Rewards

It's a proven fact that people like freebies and rewards for their actions. Those rewards can be anything from buy 1, get 1 free deals to gift certificates, rewards points, and anything else you can dream up. The point is to encourage customer participation by giving something back.

Use a Mystery to Get Attention

Almost everyone loves a good mystery or cliffhanger. So, give your clients teasers about what's to come. That could be a hint about a new product or service, or it could be anything else that makes them want to revisit your business or website.

Create a Sense of Family or Community

Finally, if you really want to keep clients coming back, create a sense of family or community. You can do that with advertisements, social media pages, e-mails, or a forum or blog on your company's website. Encouraging curiosity and participation will definitely lead to marketing success.

 Social Media for Humans

Since we're all about marketing to humans, here are some great ways your brand can be more personable on social media:

  • Be funny - but never hurtful. Most people love a bit of humor.

  • Talk (or write!) like a real person. Nobody wants to work hard to understand your message.

  • Be the same in-person and online. A consistent experience with your brand is key.

  • Be engaging. That means taking the time to have conversations that are important to your customers.

  • Be gracious. If you mess up, own it and make it right.

Take Monday Off!

Just kidding.

Even though that's the attitude most people have when Monday rolls around, there are some easy ways to make your Mondays more productive, and even a little more fun.

Be Positive

For the most part, people think Mondays are horrible because everyone else seems to think they are horrible. Think about it. How bad were your last few Mondays really? Was your Monday morning moping really justified the last few weeks? The answer is probably no. So, one easy way to turn things around is by telling yourself to start your Monday by thinking positive thoughts.

Stay Organized

One of the biggest challenges that can hinder your productivity on a Monday is a lack of organization.  You might want to just jump into your workload so you don't lose any time, but that can actually be counter-productive. It's a better idea to take an hour or so at the start of your Monday to make a tactical plan of what you need to do that day and the order in which you need to do those things. That way you'll have a sense of accomplishment every time you check something off the plan, and you'll keep your productivity levels up.

Look at the Bigger Picture

Of course, it's also important to look at the bigger picture on a Monday morning. Don't just consider what you want to do on Monday, but also what you want to accomplish throughout the week. Make yourself a schedule or set some goals. Remember that the more productive your Monday is, the less you'll have left to do later in the week.

Finally, when you're planning out your Monday and your entire workweek, remember that you can only control so much. If there are other people involved, you need to touch base with them as much as possible.
