These Habits Will Make People Love You

February is the season for love, of course - and while you can't exactly woo your customers, team, vendors, and colleagues with boxes of chocolate (although, maybe you can!) you can do something even more important. By practicing these old-fashioned courtesies you can distinguish yourself from the throngs of the rude, and make doing business with you such a pleasure that people will practically line up for the opportunity.

Habit #1: Show Up On-Time
Running late is such standard operating procedure for many people that those who've gotten used to waiting for them may even create a whole new time zone for them, padding deadlines and appointment times to try to increase the odds they won't be left waiting. While it may feel like the world continually conspires to make you late, odds are the problem is that you've got a habit of trying to get "one more thing" done before going. Pair that with a hatred for wasting time, and you may be loath to arrive early - or even on-time. Unfortunately, tardiness conveys contempt, a sense that your time is worth more than other people's time.

You can turn this around by setting hard stops on your schedule, meaning you drop everything at a set time, and go. Set alarms to remind you about phone calls you need to make. Bring something with you so you can redeem any minutes in which you find yourself waiting for someone else.

Habit #2: Mind Your Manners
Hard-driving entrepreneurs have a thousand and one thoughts and critical duties pressing on their brains at any given moment. Mentally rehearsing conversations, crafting strategies, and solving problems can make anyone forget to say please, thank you, and you're welcome.

Three simple niceties couldn't be simpler - and while they won't transform barked orders and basic rudeness into winsome behavior, they can demonstrate the sort of respect and consideration the people around you crave.

Habit #3: Be Where You Are
Your very presence may be the best present you can give your customers, team, and vendors - to say nothing about the people most meaningful to you in your personal life. Unfortunately, between the pressing nature of business and the addicting qualities of continual connectivity, this can be a challenge.

One of the most flattering and meaningful gestures you can make at the start of any conversation is to visibly turn your ringer off and place your phone face-down on the table - out of reach. It's likely the people you're talking with will do the same. Not only does this simple act communicate that this conversation is truly valuable to you - it may also contribute to an increase in efficiency and other great results from your time together.

Sadly, sticking to these three simple habits will make interactions you stand out from the crowd. They may or may not necessarily win you new business, but for sure they'll help ensure those already connected with your business want to stay there.

Tips For Instagram Marketing Success

Poll your customers, and you might be shocked to learn how many are active on Instagram - a highly visual social media platform. Want to attract and engage them? Follow these tips.

  1. Hashtags work here! Use them to make it easy for users to find you becaue they're interested in what you post.

  2. Go easy on the filters. A study published by TrackMaven showed that photos with no filter or the Mayfair filter received more likes and comments.

  3. Show off your new products, and use social proof to sell them. Encourage your buyers to post photos of them with your product and a hashtag you create for promotion. Influence is the name of the game.

Make Every Minute Count

Your day is packed. Time is finite - you can't save it or manage it, really. But you can make the most of every moment by following these simple tips.

Listen more carefully. You'll learn more, faster and avoid the unforced errors that sap any business' productivity.

Go for completion. Rather than chasing a hundred loose ends and ending your day wondering whether you got anything done at all, choose tasks that you can complete and that will have the largest impact on the rest of the day and week - and tackle them first.

Ban interruptions. It's nearly impossible to be productive when you allow yourself to be distracted every few minutes by technology. Making tech work for you means controlling when you give it attention. Turn it off!

Learn to delegate well. Good delegation is just a matter of matching tasks with the appropriate resources. Assess whether any particular task represents the highest value use of any team member's time, and assign it where it fits best.

Get organized. Or, get someone who can get you organized. If you waste time looking for what you've lost, you're not alone - but you're also hemorrhaging money with every minute you spend searching.

Match your plans to reality. We all over-estimate what we can get done now and then. Better, more accurate planning can help you avoid needing to adjust midstream. We all have the same 24 hours each day. As a business leader, it's up to you to make sure you maximize the time you have to help ensure you meet your goals. As Benjamin Franklin said, "Lost time is never found again."
