Marketing Myths You May
Meet in March

No marketing? No business.

Reaching out to audiences with relevant content and information is essential to showcasing products and establishing brand identity. With so many new developments in social media and mobile technology, marketing campaigns have more potential to interact with larger audiences than ever.

Forget leprechauns guarding pots of gold. March is particularly rife with myths and misconceptions about marketing, and businesses should be aware of these common marketing myths, especially as we round the corner on the first quarter of the year.

Myth #1: Your brand doesn't matter.
Don't make the mistake of underestimating the power of smart, consistent branding. Today's market is overwhelmed by competition. Businesses are selling similar products, and the most important differentiating factor is storytelling.

Myth #2: Marketing is all about tactics.

Don't get wrapped up in the supposed science or theories of marketing. There is no secret formula involved in effective marketing. It's about understanding people and how they interact with products and advertising. Keep in mind how your marketing campaigns will resonate with the people viewing them, and how they will impact the human element. Audiences are smarter and more self-aware than ever, so honesty and transparency in your ad campaign will make an impression.

Myth #3: New is always better.

Innovation is important in marketing, but be mindful of current developments and trends. The most successful marketing ideas tend to incorporate traditional advertising tropes or methods in a new way. Audiences like to be surprised, especially in today's image saturated market.

Myth #4: Marketing is a world unto itself.

Don't isolate your marketing team from the rest of your business. Marketing functions in sync with brand development and product development. It's only one piece in the machine of your business, and informed marketing teams are successful marketing teams. Get input from different perspectives for a well-rounded campaign, because your consumer market will be diverse.

Myth #5: Marketing means an eye-catching brochure.

So many marketing campaigns are breaking new ground with video, editing, storytelling, participation, and creativity in general. Marketing can be powerful, funny, dramatic, shocking, and beautiful. Don't fall into the pit of predictability - unleash your team and give them enough freedom to explore daring ideas.

Don't let your budget box you in.

Good marketing should never rely solely on money. You don't need an extravagant budget to achieve smart, direct advertising. Some of the most impactful marketing ideas are derived from simple, clever ideas. As much as marketing is constantly evolving, it's hard to find a single source to rely on. Assembling a team of people who work well together is your best chance at achieving competitive, edgy marketing in the coming quarter so you'll be poised to reach the goals you've set for this year.

Facebook Business Pages

Maintaining a Facebook page for your business can be a great way to build a meaningful connection with your customers and prospects. However, doing it right is a big job.

Look for ways you can stay current with trends - remember, the landscape is always changing. Your followers want to know you, not be blasted by one sales pitch after another. Especially if you're using promoted posts, be sure the content is congruent with the mood most people are in when they catch up on Facebook - they are looking for
interesting, valuable, share-worthy updates.

Aim for a balance between images, text, and promotional offers because these are some of the strongest aspects of Facebook marketing.

Efficiency Habits You Can Learn

Time is your most precious commodity. You'll boost profits when you decrease how much you waste on a daily basis. Being efficient is a popular goal, especially amongst professionals who are busy with hectic schedules every week. Learning how to schedule your time can reduce stress, and improve productivity as well as work quality.

Here are a few of the most effective ways to increase efficiency and perfect time management:

  1. Don't Believe the Myth About Multi-Tasking.
Never before have so many been distracted by so much input. Don't deceive yourself - you can't juggle as well as you think you can. Multitasking almost always erodes quality. It can also make you waste time because your focus is spread too thin between different tasks. Pay attention to the job at hand
  2. Set Realistic Goals.  Work toward your goals in realistic increments of time.  You'll avoid burnout and find it easier to focus when you've only got a certain time for each task.
  3. Don't Bite Off More Than You Can Chew.  This is a simple rule but it can be difficult to follow.  Many ambitious people crave responsibility and spend a majority of their time working under pressure. This can fuel creativity and focus, but it can also become detrimental at a certain point. Use the resources available to you, and don't be afraid to pass off tasks that can be handled by your employees.  Knowing your limits can be the best way to keep your head above water and your business thriving.
While these on-task habits will help you during your normal workday, don't forget the importance of walking away at the end of the day. As much as work may need your total commitment and focus during the day, remember that you need time to yourself. Leave your work at the office and don't get burned out. Giving your mind time to unwind and relax can illuminate new pathways to creative problem solving. Don't underestimate the importance of a fresh perspective.
