Plan to Ignore Mobile Marketing? Your Competitors Will Thank You
Mobile marketing is coming to a smartphone near you - and it will either bring customers your way, or essentially gift wrap them and deliver them to your competitors. People want that instant connection and are increasingly accustomed to it. If your business is not utilizing mobile marketing, you are missing out on all kinds of things:
  • Ads based on location so nearby potential customers realize you're there
  • Instant coupons you can update as often as you want to
  • QR codes they can scan for more information
  • SMS texting, check-in services, social apps and more

Just as smartphone users will load the phone with the exact apps and features they want, customizing their options to create a unique mobile device, so your mobile marketing strategy should be customized. You want to create the unique mobile marketing strategy that keeps you from missing all that profitability.

Think Your Business Is Mobile-Optimized? Find Out for Sure

Today your business should be mobile-optimized for best marketing results. Over half of consumers own a smartphone and use it to go online and order products and services. Many mobile users buy within an hour of searching for online. This means ordering lunch to even a new TV using their mobile phone. It increases business and leads to more sales.

Strategies to Increase Mobile Use

You should know the users or target market and how they use their mobile phones or tablets to search and order products. You can learn from analytics how many users are finding your site through mobile devices. Think about your customer segments, age and habits how they use their mobile device to search for your products or services. Would the typical customer search after work or in the evening at home? What times do you think they would use your site the most?

Design your website so that it can be accessed by most mobile devices. This means that your site displays well and customers can fill out forms or call. It should be clear and accessible on any mobile devices like iPhone, iPad, Kindle, Blackberry and Android. When someone cannot access your site this means they will go to your competitor. You may want to consider developing a separate site for mobile devices.

Investing in mobile advertising is often 50 percent cheaper than other forms. Target ads for specific locations where your business is located. Create mobile content that really sells your business or services to the public.

Think about your mobile website as a handheld sales tool that your new customers WANT to interact with.

How Well Are You Prepared to Lead
Your Growing Company?

In some ways, starting a business and nurturing it through its infancy is the easy part. If you survive, if you pour yourself into it, if you build the right systems and find the right talent, you've got a great shot at making something from nothing.
But what about when it takes off, seemingly overnight? Here are some tips for growing yourself as the leader your growing business needs:
  1. Build a trusted team. Attend meetup groups, Chamber of Commerce, or consult with SCORE to find a mentor who's got experience growing a business through your business' current phase.
  2. Make smart decisions. When your business was just starting, you could afford impulsiveness. Many mistakes could be easily reversed because you had the flexibility and resilience of being small. Seek wise advice on the big decisions now so you don't accidentally make small business moves when you should make mid-sized business moves.
  3. When you do make mistakes, learn from them. Every mistake offers an opportunity to excel in the future by making better decisions. However, making better decisions is impossible if you either go into a tailspin of anxiety over the error or refuse to extract its lessons.
  4. Learn to manage a team. Even if you are working with a team of outsourcers rather than employees, you have a team, and they need you to lead. Leadership requires clear and effective communication, people skills, and the development of an eagerness to receive open, honest feedback.
  5. Hire a coach. You already know how to grow a business from nothing to where yours is now. Some of the skills, habits, processes and practices that got you to this point will serve you well going forward - but some won't. The trick is determining which are which. An executive coach can help with that.
