Alternative to In-Center Dialysis

People must use dialysis when their own kidneys are no longer working as the body must be able to expel toxins and extra fluids. While working kidneys work continuously( 24 hours a day ,7 days a week), in center dialysis is limited to 3 days a week for 3-4 hours each day. The individual receiving dialysis may feel this is a large chunk of time from their lives. In addition they may feel drained and not able to do anything following treatment for the rest of the day. The renal diet is very restrictive as well as their fluid intake. These Hemodialysis machine are working hard to do 24 hours of work in 3-4 hours. NxStage dialysis is a smaller version of the Hemodialysis machines used in center but they are made to use in the home. These machines run more frequently for shorter dialysis periods. According to studies, the more frequently an individual has dialysis, the more energy, vitality and improved quality of life the individual has. Additionally, NxStage machines are gentler on the Cardiac system as they decrease the heart's workload by keeping patients from retaining so much fluid. This is a great benefit for patients suffering from heart disease. Also the diet is less limited then when using the larger hemodialysis machines. Many patients on NxStage are able to work and do all the activities they did before dialysis. The individual can choose while at home when they wish to run the machine and most patients' state they physically feel better and stronger than when they had used in center dialysis machine. Most people are trained in 5 weeks and they only need to visit the doctor on a monthly basis.
