Those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer are here and it's time for the event you've been waiting for - the Sad Little (and Big) Plant Sale! For those of you who are not aware, we search far and wide all over the nursery to find all kinds of goodies to offer for sale. You can get some great deals on plants that might need just some tender, loving care or might be the last ones of that particular variety hanging out here at the nursery. We get to clear the mats before winter comes and you get to take home some wonderful plants to nurse back to their full glory. Win-win! This year we are offering an extra incentive to come out to the nursery during the Sad Little (and Big) Plant Sale. If you fill out and bring in the coupon below, you will be eligible for a drawing for one of several great items from the nursery. Summer Plant Highlights:
The days of summer are slower, often lethargic. A time of Rip Van Winkle naps, trips to the beach or the pool.  But wait! not everything is slow - the bees are buzzing, the butterflies are flitting, and the birds are still zooming around. Can you find the hummingbird in this photo?  The colors of summer are hot - reds, and oranges, and yellows - and we have lots of plants that will wake you up! We also have lots of Hakonechloa 'Aureola' that looks wonderful cascading down a hillside almost giving the impression of a cooling Adirondack stream.
And then, of course, who can forget the hydrangeas, and the rose of sharons, and roses? Who, indeed! And yes, we've got them! Come to the nursery and pick out your favorites.

Summer Planting Thoughts:
Another reminder: Summer is always a difficult time to be planting. The weather is usually hot, people like to go on vacation, but the plants always need attention, especially ones that are in their first season of planting. The first year, when plants are putting out new roots and establishing themselves, is especially critical. If the weather is dry, extra water will be needed, and even if it does rain, it may not be enough. On the other hand, if it's an especially wet season, check to see that your site is not collecting and retaining water. Watering systems with rain sensors are very helpful, but nothing beats checking each new plant personally to see that they are getting the care they deserve. Stick your fingers in the dirt or use a moisture meter (we even sell these at the nursery) to make sure the soil is moist enough. Pay attention to conditions throughout the seasons and protect your investment!
