Will You Summit in 2013?
As I took this photograph at Mount Rainier National Park, I mused about standing 14,410 feet above sea level on a peak that is seven miles across.
What would my view of the world be at that height? What exhilaration would I feel at having accomplished something that demanded all of my physical, mental, and emotional resources? What would it feel like to breathe the pure, cold, clear air?
Ten thousand climbers challenge Mt. Rainier each year. Roughly fifty percent reach the summit. Not infrequently, lives are lost in the attempt. The question asked of those returning is: "Did you summit?"
I'm not a climber. I won't experience the summit at Mt. Rainier. But as 2012 came to a close, I began to give some thought to what I want to experience in the coming year. I asked myself what it would mean for me to "summit" in 2013? What would the peak look like in my Reiki practice, relationships, leisure activities, and spiritual practice?

The Ripple Effect
We can never know the ultimate effect of any word we speak or action we take, whether a smile, a kind word, a large project, or a Reiki treatment. Ripples continue to move outward long after we may have forgotten the originating event.
Jen Stellato, who with her husband, Jim Landers, practices and teaches Reiki in Fairfield, CT, requested permission to share my September 2012 article "Treating the Feet" with other practitioners. I agreed, and the ripples began.
She writes: Your article, "Treat the Feet" arrived at just the right time. It was shared at our very next Reiki Share and everybody commented on its effectiveness.
The article was also shared with local nursing home residents who have been attuned to Reiki. Jen relates: Now, here is where the "ripple effect" continues: The residents enjoyed your article, and one asked about the possibility of a similar protocol for the hands as most of the residents are in wheelchairs and cannot reach their feet.*
So, the "ripple effect" resulted in a chart adaptation for the hands! This makes it easier for residents to administer Reiki to themselves comfortably. Thank you for your inspiring work!
