"Rerouting" the Chakras
A client I hadn't seen in a while called this week to make an appointment. She wanted me to "reroute" her chakras, or "whatever it is you do." That started my day off with a chuckle!
The client was referring to a technique I call the Chakra Cleansing Visualization, which came to me intuitively early in my practice and can be a self-treatment as well as for a client.
A simple and amazingly effective way of realigning and balancing the body's energy system, the visualization can be done in two ways: as a brief part of a standard session, or as a complete, stand-alone treatment. Both are fully described on pages 74-75 in my book.
If I use the Chakra Cleansing Visualization as a complete treatment, I combine it with Jonathan Goldman's sound-healing CD Chakra Chants, which has an 8-10 minute track specific to each chakra, beginning with the root. The music is a powerful support.
Starting at position #14 (page 46), I imagine gold light rotating counter-clockwise within the root chakra, cleansing it of all undesirable energy. As track two begins on the CD, I move my hands to the sacral chakra (position #13), following the same procedure as above, and continue up the body with my hands moving to the solar plexus, heart, throat, brow, and, finally, crown chakra, cleansing each in turn. I then return to position #14, filling the root chakra with gold light, now rotating clockwise, and again moving up each chakra to the crown, filling each with gold light.
I now imagine white light entering the crown, traveling down through the throat chakra and front of the body to the root chakra and up the spine, completing the circuit at the crown and continuing to flow in this manner. Finally, I imagine the white light spreading out from the spine and filling the entire body and aura, so there is nothing but light.
I typically use one or more of the appropriate symbols with this treatment, drawn from the crown to the root and/or at specific chakras.
It should be noted that neither Usui Sensei, Dr. Hayashi, nor Mrs.Takata referenced the chakras in their teachings. The chakra system was introduced into the practice of Reiki as Eastern thought became more widely known and accepted in the West. Although many traditions throughout the world have developed systems to explain the movement of energy within the body, the one most common in the West, and the one this visualization is based on, is the Hindu seven chakra system.
