The Breath of Life
Mrs.Takata is said to have admonished her students, "Let Reiki teach you." I often repeat this statement to my students, and I've had many indications through the years that Reiki is truly our best teacher. I believe that Reiki not only reveals to each practitioner the best way for the practitioner to work with it, but also reveals the best way for the practitioner to work with each client. As practitioners, we need only pay attention. One poignant example immediately comes to mind. I was working with a client who had lung cancer. One day as he entered my treatment room and put his oxygen tank aside, he commented, "The only time I can breathe easily is when I'm on your table." During the treatment a mantra was given to me, and I was instructed to give it to him and suggest he repeat it when he was having difficulty breathing. After his death some months later, his family found the mantra written in the front of his journal. I like to believe it aided him and gave him comfort during those last months of his life journey. I've since offered it to other clients, used it during treatments, taught it to my students, and used it for myself during times of stress. I offer it to you:
I take in the breath of LIFE easily and effortlessly.
I take in the breath of LIGHT easily and effortlessly.
I take in the breath of LOVE easily and effortlessly.
I take in the breath of DELIGHT easily and effortlessly.
I am the I AM. I am the I AM. I am the I AM.
This mantra is the basis of a meditation I developed in collaboration with one of my teachers, Reiki Master Tom Tessereau. The meditation is on page 99 in my book; the mantra, page 146.
