GSCCC ANNUAL MEETING - Saturday, April 25

Join us in the lovely Garden Room at the famous Madonna Inn, in San Luis Obispo for the 2015 Annual Meeting. Meet the new Board of Directors, learn what's new for the council in 2015, and network with other leaders, staff, National Delegates, and more. You will enjoy an evening of good food, and as always, special Girl Scout surprises. Ruth Pollack will receive her 50-Year Recognition, and other awards will be distributed during the program.

It's Spring!  As troops start to plan for Spring/Summer bridging, Blast-Off to Brownies, Fly-Up to Juniors and Climb-Up to Cadettes.  Review bridging basics on the GSUSA website for all grade levels.

BRONZE AWARD

Please review the updated Bronze Award Guidelines  before starting to earn the award:

  • Troops in  4th and 5th grade can work on a Bronze Award
  • The troop leader approves the Bronze Award.
  • Girls must complete one Junior Journey before starting the project.

SILVER AWARD

This is an exciting time of year when girls begin planning and working on Silver Awards. Please review Silver Award Guide before starting to earn the award:

  • Girls 6th to 8th Grade can work on the Girl Scout Silver Award.
  • Girls must complete one Journey prior to starting work on the project
  • The Silver Award project must be done in the local community (beyond the Girl Scout community)

KALEIDOSCOPE 2015: MAY 1-3
The countdown to Kaleidoscope 2015 has begun! The Kaleidoscope Committee is putting final touches on the plan, and girls across the council have been brushing up on their skills for the Skill Challenges. The event promises to be a fun-filled adventure in the "Sea of Dreams" this year, and we can't wait to see you there! GIRLS' CHOICE OUTDOOR BADGES

In the month of November, GSUSA began the polling process for the Girls' Choice Outdoor badges by inviting girls to vote on a diverse option of outdoor themes.

 
Outdoor Explorer emerged as the winning theme, with five age-specific badge offerings:
  • Outdoor Adventurer
  • Horseback Riding
  • Archery
  • Paddling (paddle sports such as kayaking, canoeing, and stand-up paddle boarding),
  • Ultimate Recreation Challenge

ARNAZ RENOVATIONS - Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers for light and heavy-duty projects at Arnaz which are near completion: 1. Volleyball court sand grading, and  2. Stringing perimeter fencing - the posts were already set by the generosity of locally based Navy Seabees during a work day last fall.  If you know of someone in construction who would be willing to help out, please contact Allan Goff, GSCCC Director of Properties: [email protected]

 

Renovations to the main lodge at the Arnaz Program Center are nearly complete. Other improvements throughout the camp are planned, but there is not a specific timeline identified for those yet. COUNCIL DISTINGUISHED LEADER & DISTINGUISHED VOLUNTEER AWARDS Has someone in your Service Unit gone above and beyond their position and deserve extra appreciation?  Read more about the Distinguished Leader and Distinguished Volunteer Awards. Talk with your Service Unit Manager directly to nominate a colleague, Leader or amazing volunteer. Awards can be purchased in council shops.  Information on these awards is on page 12 in the Adult Awards Packet.

DEBI DYER - NEW AREA TRAINING COORDINATOR

GSCCC extends a warm Girl Scout welcome to Debi Dyer, the new Area Training Coordinator for the Southern Region!  Debi will work with with Program staff and Lead Learning Facilitators to schedule and grow the GSCCC Adult Learning program including: New Learning Facilitator, Grade Level, Outdoor, P.A.C.T., and Archery Trainings. THANK YOU, Thank You, Thank You!  to all 6,307 girls, their parents, Troop Leaders, Troop Cookie Managers, Service Unit Cookie Chairs and Service Unit Cupboard Managers who participated in this year's Cookie Sale Program.Together we sold 1,293,263 boxes of cookies, which is an 8.4% increase over last year's sale, to earn more than $921,000 for the 751 participating troops.

 

 

 

The Troop to Troops Cookie Donation Program will be sending 20,632 boxes tomilitary troops serving overseas.  Thank you for putting a smile on a soldiers face as they enjoy that taste of home.

GSUSA NATIONAL BLING YOUR BOOTH CONTEST: Your Troop can still enter the GSUSA National Contest for a chance to win $500.

 

To participate, girls need to:

  • Write their troop number, the name of their local council, and their cookie goal on the online entry form.
  • Promote their entry and ask friends and family to vote!  Note: Entrants and Facebook community members may vote on their favorite submission once per hour. Please refer to the Challenge Guidelines for additional details on "How to Enter."
