MEET & GREET THE NEW CEO: GINA M. JAEGER

SAVE THE DATE! Gina joined the council on May 15, and is eager to meet the volunteers who make it all happen. SUMs and Troop Leaders are encouraged to attend this summer Town Hall Meeting to welcome Gina and share thoughts about Girl Scouting along California's Central Coast.

VOLUNTEERS

 

ANY TIME IS A GOOD TIME TO START A DAISY TROOP!  And, the Daisy Chain is growing! Summer is here and Daisys are springing up everywhere. In Atascadero, Daisies participated in a Daisy Chain Event. These new girls were excited to see the activities, and parents were happy to see that starting was actually easy. Invite others to join the Daisy Chain! 

 

MY PROMISE, MY FAITH Girls can participate every year and earn a pin. More information is in The Girls Guide to Girl Scouting or online. The curriculum can be used for summer church camp or as a series for troops. Contact Camille: [email protected]

 

UNIQUE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY GSCCC and United Way collaboration NEEDS YOU!  Fun in the Sun (FITS) is a summer-long day camp for 120 underserved girls from the Santa Barbara area. For the first time, groups of 35 girls will spend a day at Camp Arnaz exploring leadership, building outdoor skills, and developing an appreciation for nature. This collaborative effort needs Girl Scout volunteers and PAs with outdoor camp expertise. To volunteer for one day, or all four days (July 8, 9, 10, or 29), contact Angelica: [email protected]

GIRL SCOUT FRIENDSHIP BRACELET SUMMER ART PROJECT to help girls remember the Girl Scout Law. 

  • RED - For learning to stay healthy and safe
  • BLUE - For the friends we make worldwide
  • ORANGE - For the discoveries we make about our world
  • PURPLE - For enjoying the arts from around the world
  • YELLOW - For exploring the beautiful outdoors
  • GREEN - For Girl Scouting
  • CIRCLE - Represents friendship around the world with sister Girl Scouts and Girl Guides  
  • 13 SMALL KNOTS - Ten for the ten parts of the Girl Scout Law, and three for the three parts of the Promise.  
  • 1 SQUARE KNOT - To represent the bond that unites all of us in Girl Scouting.
  • BELL - To ensure good luck.  

Cut one 18" length of embroidery floss in each color above. Tie with an overhand knot in the center, and then six overhand knots on each side of the center knot, for a total of 13 small knots. Join the ends in one square knot. Attach bell. The bell tinkles with the sound of friendship.

March4thMusic GIRL SCOUTS ROCK! July 19-21 Watsonville, Santa Maria, Ventura - Attention Daisy, Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts who love music! Join local girls for a hands-on music workshop and concert this summer led by Girl Scout alum and Gold Award recipient Lynnzee Fraye and the band March 4th Music. Girls will experience: different musical instruments, pop songs from around the world, see March 4th perform, and participate in a live concert with an instrument made that day! NEW FOREVER GREEN 2013 ACTIVITY GUIDE AND FREE PATCH PROGRAM! Join Girl Scouts across the council in making the world a better place! Activities focus on saving energy, conserving water and reducing plastics in the environment. It's easy to participate individually, as a troop, or with a 2013 Forever Green Patch group. Complete three or more activities, register the activity with GSUSA and complete the patch order form online. "Out-of-the-box" Forever Green projects or events are encouraged. ARNAZ PROGRAM CENTER

 

FLAG DAY June 14 Join Girl Scouts and local Veterans as they celebrate the U.S. Flag.  Learn about History of the Flag, perform Ceremonies and participate in Flag Retiring Fire Ceremony. 

 

SHOW ARNAZ SOME LOVE Troops can provide community service. Adult volunteers with the following specialized skills or tools/equipment are needed. 

  • Fire Ring Clearing/Painting
  • Picnic Benches
  • Gardening
  • Trail Clearing
  • Organizing
  • Brush Clearing
  • Minor Plumbing

 

ARCHERY Troops or individuals can have private Archery sessions at Arnaz.

 

Archery Instructor Certification class will be offered soon. Once certified, an instructor is able to serve as Range Master for Troops, SU Events, Day Camps or Council Events.

THANK YOU girls and volunteers for a successful 2013 Cookie Sale! GSCCC sold a total of 1,119,248 boxes of cookies and sent an amazing 37,582 boxes to Military troops overseas.
